Hello,

We have had clients report a problem with registering for our event on our website. They have been getting a server timeout error after clicking register. I asked our web host and they believe it is any issue with the plug-in. Please advise. https://leadershipmacomb.org/event/jlm-v-graduation/

Thanks,
Diane

Hi Diane,

I’ve just done a quick test registration on that event and didn’t run into any problems.

Did they say why they think its Event Espresso?

Have you (or the host) checked the error logs for any errors being thrown during the request?

Hi Tony – Yes, I checked the error log and it says PHP Warning: fopen(/nas/content/live/leadmacomb/.htaccess): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /nas/content/live/leadmacomb/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 125, referer: https://www.paypal.com/webapps/

Our host says everything looks good on their end and told me to check with you or PayPal

That’s a Warning stating WP could not write to your .htaccess file and was denied permission to do so, it wouldn’t cause a server time out error but your host should definitely look into that further.

Any other errors?

Actually, nevermind.

Its not a server timeout error it’s this error – http://take.ms/EQtoX

That happens for 2 reasons, either the page form was submitted incredibly fast (meaning its likely a BOT) or the event page with the ticket selector has been cached and so when the tickets are submitted the timestamp is over 1 hour old (thats the problem on your site)

Your event pages are caching – http://take.ms/eo650

You’ll need to contact your host and have them exclude the event pages from caching, along with all 4 of the EE critical pages. We have some documentation on this here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/setup-nocache-exclusion-rules-event-espresso/
