How does EE send messages out? If our email is through gmail, is there any reason it wouldn’t work?

I’m asking because at some point we had trouble and started using mandrill as a workaround. But mandrill is only available to paying customers of mailchimp now. Thing is, I’m not even sure we need it.

Hi there,

Event Espresso basically builds out the content of the email and passes the details over to wp_mail().

wp_mail() is a WordPress core function used to send all of the emails sent through WordPress, it basically formats the emails and makes sure they are setup as expected.

Then (by default) wp_mail() passes the email over to your hosting company for them to send through their server however they have it setup to do so.

So EE itself does not actually send any emails it builds them out and then your hosts sends the email. I’m guessing at some point you emails were either not being received or ended up in the users spam folder and that’s why you used Mandrill?

How are you send your emails through gmail?

Although Mandrill will be a paid service, we have others listed here:

Which do the same job as Mandrill and have free tiers available.
