could someone please advise how to add a custom template for use with the send batch message option? dont want to use global template but want to set up several templates – thanks |
Hello, You can do that by creating a custom template ahead of time: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-create-a-custom-message-template/ Then it will be available for selection in the dropdown when you click on the batch email option at the end of the registrations page. — |

Hello, Certain shortcodes are not available in specific areas due to the context. You can click the hamburger (three line) icon to see available shortcodes. — |

Hi Lorenzo but i want to add the class that the person has enrolled in and the venue – are you saying there is no way to do this? seems odd as other templates can be customised so how can i create a canned reply for registrants showing the event they registered for and the venue? |

to confirm i set up a custom message template message type newsletter to sent out this info to all class registrants (there are 15 different classes with 6 different venues) Hi all and welcome to K9 Nose Work®. We are excited and looking forward to meeting you and introducing you and your dog to this wonderful new activity and sport. Your currently booked into the Beginners course in __(Building and location)_____. Your first class will be on the __(Date)__, runs for 6 weeks and will cost $200. Your instructor will be ___(Instructor)____. If you can’t find us, please call __(Instructor and phone number)____. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes before your class time and leave your dog in the car while you sign in and we sort out a running order. The class is strict, in that, our ultimate aim is to have confident happy searching dogs. To that end, there is no talking while a dog is searching and no spectators (other students) are allowed to come in or out during a search. If the door is shut, please wait until it is opened from the inside to allow you to enter. this is where i want to enter the class they entered and the venue – please advise how i can do this |
You can do that but not by using the shortcodes currently. It all depends on the ‘context’ the message template uses to generate the message. Newsletter were designed to to build within the ‘contact’ context (the message was sent directly to the EE contact connects to the registrations which meant the messenger did not have access to registration/event data) We are working on changing the newsletter over to allow use of registration and event based shortcodes (the shortcodes you are referring to are event based, venues, dates and instructors are assigned to events so you need the event base shortcodes) One way you can do this current is to setup a template similar to how you have it above and manually change the details within template before sending to each batch. I’ll check in with our developers to see if there is a way to allow event based shortcodes within the newsletter message type and get back to you. |

thanks Tony – can you please expand on how I do the below please? One way you can do this current is to setup a template similar to how you have it above and manually change the details within template before sending to each batch. |
That would be creating a custom newsletter message template from within Event Espresso -> Messages -> Newsletter -> Create Custom: http://take.ms/Sg6GF The details you can alter at the time of sending are the details within the [NEWSLETTER_CONTENT] section, here – http://take.ms/83BI2 So place all of your content in that section and format the ‘Main Content’ area to not output details you don’t want, you could just call [NEWSLETTER_CONTENT], like this – http://take.ms/ESRBy Then save your template, make sure you give the message template a name you can identify, I used ‘Custom k9nosetime newsletter template’ so I could find it on my site – http://take.ms/ZMVAg Now go to Event Espresso -> Registraions. Click the checkbox next to a registration (use a test registration of your own if you want to fully test this) and then click ‘Send batch message (X selected)’ at the bottom. Now you’ll see a dialog that allows you to select custom newsletter message template you just created – http://take.ms/KKgIs You can now make changes to the template and send from there. So you can change each of your placeholder like __(Building and location)_____ manually and then send. One caveat with this is changes made within that dialog box will be saved to your newsletter message template. So when you select the next batch of registrations to send you not see you __(Building and location)_____ placeholders but the text your used last in place of each of those. |

Thanks Tony I have just worked through that and it worked ok….bit messy but do able….hope it will be changed in the future to streamline it |

BTW is there any easy way to send out an email to all registrants reminding them of the class date and time and venue please? |
Hello, The batch email feature can be used to send out a notification to all registrants for a specific event. Go to Event Espresso –> Events and hover over the event name and click on Registrations. This will take you to the registrations overview screen for the specific event. Then scroll to the end of the page and click on the batch email button. Then compose your message and send it out. An automated email option for reminding registrants/attendees about an upcoming event will be available in the future as an add-on. — |
