According to https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-multiple-event-registration-add-on/
The events on the event listing page will receive an “Add to Event Cart” button as shown in the image above. Please note, users can only add tickets from each event individually. Selecting tickets from other events, on the same screen, does not automatically add all selected tickets to the cart. Clicking the Add to Cart button will only add the tickets for that event.
Why was it implemented this way?
Is there a way around it (i.e. select all that you want, then hit the add button once anywhere?)

Hi Raffy,
There are a few reasons for implementing the cart this way, one of which is to prevent users adding tickets from events they didn’t expect. For example selecting tickets from one event in the list by mistake and then selecting the ‘correct’ tickets from another event and adding them all to the cart and ned to remove them.
Is there a way around it (i.e. select all that you want, then hit the add button once anywhere?)
Not without creating your own method for front submissions.

Thanks for explaining the rationale behind this. This will help a lot when I explain to the event organizer who brought it up.
Just in case, do you have any suggestions or can you point me in the right direction on how I can have an event list page that can add any and all events selected on the current page?

Currently, I don’t have any examples of this as it would take significant refactoring so it’s not a customization we support.
I can’t think of any other way to add multiple events to the cart without creating your own checkout/front end ticket submissions.
