Hi again,

Wondering if anyone has ever managed to make EE work for purchasing tickets to a play/movie?

This is what we need to do:

We have multiple venues with allocated seating (theatre’s). Some events have 2 ticket prices (General Admission and Concession). We want the customer to be able to choose the seats they want and at which price and then pay for them. There should be no need to collect any info on ‘Attendees’ other than the ticket purchaser.

We have installed the latest versions of EE, ‘Seating Chart’ ‘Recurring Events’, ‘Multiple Event Registrations’ and ‘Ticketing’. Just can’t see how to make this work seamlessly? I need to know if the above is possible and what I need to do to make it happen? Happy to purchase/pay for anything that we need to achieve this?

Cheers,
Therese

Hi,

Currently Multiple Event Registration and the Seating chart do not work together. It is a feature that we will be looking into when the seating chart is remade for 4.X but there is currently no timeline for it.

As such the only way to make it functional would be to have an event for each ticket price type, which we understand isn’t perfect.

Hi Dean,

Appreciate your response, but that’s just not going to work, my client expects something that is intuitive and functional for their customers. Do we have access to seating plan information via the JSON API? I have had a look in the documentation but couldn’t see anything?

Cheers,
Therese

Hi Therese,
The seating chart add-on was written with the premise that the price of a ticket is based solely on the seat selected. However, I did manage to work out something of a solution for you, assuming that the difference between the General Admission and Concession is something like “Add a meal to this ticket?” Using the Price Modifier Add-on, I was able to add a question that raised the price of the ticket selected by the seating chart. I had to go into the file includes/process-registration/payment_page.php and comment out the lines 116-128. The correct final price then shows up on the confirmation page and the payment page.
Unfortunately, with the seating chart active, all additional attendees are asked all the questions that the primary attendee is asked. The only thing I can suggest there is a notice on the page that informs the user that additional attendee information is for the information printed on the ticket and that they can just repeat the primary attendee information. Or we might be able to have one of our developers modify some javascript code from the MER checkout process that duplicates the primary attendee information into the additional attendee entries as it is entered, and hides the additional attendee questions, so that it looks like the additional attendee information is not required. You would probably need to purchase a couple of support tokens to cover the developer’s time for the customization work. Let us know if that is something you would be interested in pursuing.
