Hi,

Can you reset my license key which I had to activate on our test server?

Also the event calendar sometimes takes a while to load (spinning gif icon shows). Is there anything likely to be causing this?

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi,

Please request the key via your account (unless you have already received an email confirming a reset).

Regarding the calendar, it could be a few factors. Can you provide a link to the calendar please?

Hi Elaine,

If you go to You Account Page

Click the request reset button next to your license key.

When you get to the section requesting payment simply close the popup (we will still get the request).

We can’t reset your license until it has been requested 🙂

We advise not to use your License key on development servers and just update Event Espresso manually there. You will need to remove the key from the development site to prevent a ‘license key in use on multiple domains error’ being thrown.

Also the event calendar sometimes takes a while to load (spinning gif icon shows). Is there anything likely to be causing this?

The icon is to show something it happening. In the background the calendar is pulling in all of your events to display, if you have many events or your server is under heavy load this make take a little sometimes.

Does it happen often?

Hi Dean, Tony,

I cannot see a “request reset” button beside the license key – there is just an empty space – I’ve tried on FF, IE and Chrome but get the same. Where is the reset button?

I can send a screengrab but the forum doesn’t appear to allow attachments.

Elaine

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi Dean, Tony

The calendar can be seen on http://webdandy-development.co.uk/ditw/courses-calendar/. It happens on and off – sometimes it loads quickly sometimes it takes a while.

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi Elaine, try copying and pasting your support license key into the new site and saving:

https://eventespresso.com/users/elainew/#account-settings

It should be added to the General Settings page for Event Espresso within your WordPress dashboard.

Hi Lorenzo,

We aren’t ready to move the dev site to the final site. I’d rather mot leave the reset of the key until we move only to discover an issue.

Is there any reason why I can’t see the “request reset” button beside the license key?

Also just checked and now I can only see one key rather than the two free keys plus the one I need reset?

Hi, it would need to be linked to the new site or another site before we could release it.

Hi Lorenzo,

OK – I understand. Should we keep this thread open and I can update it when the final site is ready to move?

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi, you can perform the request through your account page. Creating a support post isn’t needed for that.

If you need help with anything else, just create a new support post in our support forums:

https://eventespresso.com/support/forums/

Thanks

Hi Lorenzo,

I can’t request a reset of the license key through the account page.

I was told the reset request button should be beside the license key on the My Account page – as I’ve explained above I can’t see any reset license key button – there is just a blank space beside the license key – so how do I perform a request through the account page?

Hi, you’ll need to link the existing support license key to a site before we can release it. This can be done by copying and pasting it into the general settings page for Event Espresso and saving changes.

If you would like to do that now, then I can release it.

Hi, it doesn’t look like it linked correctly so I’ve rolled over that support license key and created a new one. When you are ready you can enable it for one of your sites:

Hi Lorenzo,

Thanks. Should I delete the license key info from the dev site in prep for moving the site and then enter the new license key when the site is moved to the final domain?

Hi, you may see a notice that the existing support license key (old one) is invalid or expired.

You can ignore that message or you can activate the new support license key on the site.

Once you are ready to move to live, then you can request a release via your account page.

Hi Lorenzo,

We’ll wait until we move the site then delete the old key and copy and save the new key.

For future ref. when you say request a release via your account page can you show us a screen grab of where/what we should see on the account page as we’ve never seen a request reset button even when the old key was activated on the dev server.

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi,

Regarding the calendar, I didn’t see any issues when I looked at it. As it is intermittent, it may be down to the server resources. Is your hosting on a shared server? VPS? Dedicated?

Elaine Wildash

May 29, 2015 at 5:28 am

Hi Dean,

The hosting is shared.

Looking at the system status for EE I can see:

WP Memory Limit
40 MB – We recommend setting memory to at least 64MB. See: Increasing memory allocated to PHP

and

Warning: is_dir(): Unable to find the wrapper “tcp” – did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? in ../../../../../../../espresso-admin-status.php on line 295
tcp://10.168.1.55:11211?persistent=0&weight=1&timeout=5&retry_interval=15 does not exist – contact your host to resolve the problem.

Are these likely to cause issues?

Also can you comment on:

can you show us a screen grab of where/what we should see on the account page as we’ve never seen a request reset button even when the old key was activated on the dev server.

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

We recently found a problem in which some accounts would not show the Request Reset button and it appears your account my have been one of the ones effected by this.

Here is how it should look when you have assigned the key – http://take.ms/3kI4T

When you assign the key to your domain, if that button does not appear please let us know.

This notice:

WP Memory Limit
40 MB – We recommend setting memory to at least 64MB. See: Increasing memory allocated to PHP

Means your site is running on 40MB of memory which is a little low. I would recommending following the steps here:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

Which instructs you to add something like:

define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '96M' );

To your wp-config.php file.

Regarding this error:

Warning: is_dir(): Unable to find the wrapper “tcp”

Can I ask which hosting company are you using? Are they cloud based and do they run server side caching?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply.

Re: some accounts would not show the Request Reset button and it appears your account my have been one of the ones effected by this.

Yes, my account just shows a blank space.

Re: Can I ask which hosting company are you using? Are they cloud based and do they run server side caching?

We are using Vidahost. Yes thes iste is on Cloud hosting – not sure if they run server side caching.

Is this likely to cause issues with the site/EE?

Thanks,

Elaine

Yes, my account just shows a blank space.

Currently your key is not assigned to a domain, so there is nothing to reset. The Request Reset button will remain hidden until you reassign your key. Once you have done this, if the button still does not display just let us know.

Is this likely to cause issues with the site/EE?

It can do yes. I would recommend contacting your host and providing that full error message to have them investigate.

I believe it can be caused by memcached but your host should be able to provide more information.

Hi Tony,

I’ll approach the hosting company and ask them to help.

Re: Currently your key is not assigned to a domain, so there is nothing to reset. The Request Reset button will remain hidden until you reassign your key. Once you have done this, if the button still does not display just let us know.

Lorenzo had to issue a new unassigned key as the one currently assigned the site (which on a dev server) wasn’t linking properly but appears to be working fine when I look at the WP EE admin area of the site.

When I go to move the site to its final domain do I delete the current key before or after moving and then apply the new key?

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi Tony,

Hosting has come back with

“The cloud does use memcached for sessions, it looks like this plugin is checking the sessions save path to see if it is a directory but memcached doesn’t work in this way. Is there a setting in this plugin that can be used so it knows not to make this check perhaps?”

Any advice? If it can’t be resolved what likely problems will we see with EE?

Thanks,

Elaine

When I go to move the site to its final domain do I delete the current key before or after moving and then apply the new key?

The current key is different from the one in your account right?

If so you can remove they key anytime as it is no longer valid.

Your new should only be input into the site when using the final domain. The reason for this is they key will be assigned to the first domain is it used on, so if you use it on your dev site it will be assigned to that, if you then use it on another site it will invalidate the key (as it is being used on multiple domain) and requests a reset. You then need to remove it from the dev site and only use it on the live site. That all make sense?

The license key can only be used on one domain, that should be your final domain, not a dev copy. You can use EE on your dev site without the key, you’ll just need to update manually on that site.

In regards to the sessions error, your using EE3 right?

If EE can not create sessions then your attendee information will not be saved as it is used to track the registration and update the Database.

I do not believe EE3 can be used with object-caching.

I’ll check with our developers if there are any other options.

Elaine Wildash

May 29, 2015 at 8:25 am

Hi Tony,

Yes, its EE3.

Does this mean that EE3 is not compatible with Cloud hosting? Or do I need to ask the hosting to do something different?

Thanks,

Elaine

Hi,

The host has come back and said

“There should be no problem at all creating sessions, or else WordPress itself wouldn’t actually work, we use memcache to manage sessions on the cloud. Can you ask if their plugin requires file based sessions or if there is any way to use a different “session save handler”?

We can just removed the check which is check to see if the save path is a directory, because it is not supposed to be a directory for memcache based sessions, but it would be better if there was a way their plugin could support this natively.”

Hi Elaine,

There should be no problem at all creating sessions, or else WordPress itself wouldn’t actually work,

WordPress itself does not use Session (old thread but still valid), at all. It uses cookies for authentication but that’s pretty much it. WordPress itself will happily work without the ability to use Sessions (we see this a lot when users don’t have access to create sessions on shared severs, WordPress still works fine)

Can you ask if their plugin requires file based sessions or if there is any way to use a different “session save handler”?

I’ve requested further feedback for this but I do not believe so.

It may simply be that check that is failing, as your host mentioned that check is simply a a is_dir() function checking if the save path is a directory, here is the code that throws that warning:

$save_path = session_save_path();
//Get the session_save_path

//Check is session_save_path is a directory
if ( ! is_dir( $save_path ) ) {
	echo '' . sprintf( __('%s does not exist - contact your host to resolve the problem.', 'event_espresso'), $save_path ). '';
//If it is not writeable, display a warning.
} elseif ( ! is_writeable( $save_path ) ) {
	echo '' . sprintf( __('%s is not writable - contact your host to resolve the problem.', 'event_espresso'), $save_path ). '';
} else {
//Otherwise its working as expected
	echo '' . sprintf( __('%s is writable.', 'event_espresso'), $save_path ). '';
}

So what’s happening is session_save_path() is returning something that is_dir() isn’t expecting and doesn’t understand. As far as I can tell that check is the only place within the code that sessions are treated this way. So it should work.

There is currently no way to change EE3 to use a different “session save handler” although by the looks of it there should be no need.

Is the site currently live somewhere so I can run a test registration and view it? If sessions are causing problems it should be fairly obviously, otherwise it should work fine.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the site is currently available at http://webdandy-development.co.uk/ditw/. I setup a course http://webdandy-development.co.uk/ditw/forest-school/forest-school-booking/ with no cost and registered and can see the reg details in the admin section – so it looks like it is working OK.

Could you run a test and let me know what you think?

Thanks,

Elaine

I’ve ran 2 registrations on that event, can you confirm if both registrations are there.

Tony Warwick

If so then it appears to be working as expected. Basically I’m checking that th session is clearing after each registration is finalized. If this wasn’t the case, multiple registrations from the same user would overwrite the previous registration each time.

You are most welcome, Elaine.

If you do have any issues just let us know, but so far all looks fine from here.

Have a great day 🙂

P.S. I like what you have done with the layout/design. The registration form is clean and works well with the rest of the site (which again I also like)
