Recaptcha opens on new page

We are using recaptcha on the registration pages, and it works properly.

the only issue is if a registrant gets the recaptcha wrong, it brings them to a new page which says ‘Sorry, you did not enter the correct anti-spam phrase. Please click your browser’s back button and try again.’ When the registrant goes back, they have to fill out the entire form again.

Is it possible to have the recaptcha validate the same way the other fields do – with an on-page alert so they dont have to click back and refill out the entire form?

Not currently, but I will certainly put this forward as a feature request.
