I followed the directions on this page: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-create-a-custom-message-template/ but I have questions about it.
1. Can only one template be in use at a time for a specific message type? For example, if I want to send a link to download resources after someone’s registration is approved, should I paste that information into the existing message so that the customer gets the registration approved message and the download info? Or can I send both the default template and the custom one at the same time?
2. How do I edit a custom template? If I go to Messages / Custom Message Templates, I only see options to Edit Event Admin, Edit Primary Registrant and Edit Registrant, nothing about editing the custom template contents. When I go to the Event and click on Edit to the right of the new custom template, it opens what looks like a custom template, but all of the original contents are there, not anything that I changed. (yes I saved it!)
3. Is there a way to simulate sending the custom template so I can make sure it looks the way I want it to?
wrt 1, only one template at a time. Either the default or a selected custom template
2 The custom templates are found in Event Espresso > Messages > Custom Message Templates. If you’re viewing the custom templates tab, then all of the templates there are custom. Any of the links you click on there will take you into the custom template editor. The default templates are found in Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message Templates. Clicking the links there will allow for editing the default templates.
3 In the Extra Actions box is a field and Test button. It will send a test email to the address input there.
One more thing…
I have assigned my custom template to the class “commercial electrical” and I have specific instructions in it for that class. However, when I go to the custom template which has [EVENT_LIST] in the body, and send a test email to myself, the class name is incorrect. Is that because it’s just a test and it’s filling in a random event? I thought it would know there was a connection between the commercial electrical class where the template was assigned.
Yes that’s because it’s a test and it’s filling in data from the first event it can find. One thing to keep in mind is a custom message template could be potentially assigned to many events.
Ok…one more thing. I accidentally forgot to switch recipients when I started a couple of my custom messages…is there any way to copy from one recipient to another? Or do I need to make the changes manually like I’ve been doing with all the rest?
We currently don’t have the option to copy one context to another, so yes, you would need to manually apply the changes to the correct context at this time.
