Hi,
I’m really interested in EE.
I own a cooking school, with website based on WordPress.

There are a few things that I’d like to be able to efficiently manage:

1. Single day classes. EeventEspresso looks perfect;
2. Multiple events Courses (being treated as a single object but happening in different days). Here I don’t know what the best solution would be: your recurring events are treated as independent single events. The possible solutions would be closing the booking window before the beginning of the first lesson (but this is a workaround and with many complications since the single classes cannot be bought as single events) or selling the whole course as a single event, specifying in the description the single classes’ dates. Is this correct?
This is probably the biggest problem I found.
3. Gift certificates 1. How can EeventEspresso help me? Is it possible to sell gift certificates?
4. Gift certificates 2. Once a client wants to use a gift certificate online (value: 70€) to purchase a 60€ class, will his code still be valid for the remaining amount? And if he buys a 120€ class, will EeventEspresso ask him to pay the difference?
5. Payment: I want to accept bank transfers. This means that the process is 1. client books 2. client receives email with payment details 3. I receive payment confirmation from the bank 4. I manually accept and confirm the booking 5. client receives confirmation email. Is this possible? Will email be automatically sent upon client booking request and my booking confirmation?

The last question is about the language: I saw that the Italian language translation is in progress (not progressing a lot in the past 2 years, actually). For me allowing my clients (all Italians) to have everything in their language is fundamental. I could apply to help by completing the translation, but I really need to be sure that my translation would be available to use right after completed, not weeks or moths later.
Do you think that this will be possible?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kindest regards,
FC

Hi Federico,

1) Yep.

2) We are working on a better solution in 4.0, but one way would be to create X number of events that cover the days, and then use the “alternate registration page” to link them back to the first event in the series.

So if you have events on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for example, you would link Wednesday and Friday to Monday. So whatever day a person clicks on in the calendar for instance, they would always be routed to Monday to sign up.

You would need to have the days mentioned in the description or something like that.

Otherwise use one event and advise dates in the description, though it will only appear on one day in the calendar.

3) We don’t currently have a gift certificate system in place.

You may be better off using the promo codes to offer flat fee discounts. But these are not used up when activated.

4) If you use promo codes, not the remaining amount will not be kept. Yes, if a promo code discounts an €120 event by €50 he will be asked to pay the remaining amount.

5) We have a pre-approval system, so the client can register and obtain the bank details, then after payment is processed you can manually accept that user and the payment confirmation email will go out.

6) We are always looking for translators to assist us. We use a system called Glotpress to take the translations and process them. They ar enot available instantly but we do try to push them out as quickly as possible.

Hi Dean,
Thank you for your answers.

It’s really a pity for the gift voucher, it’s very common to give as a present a class, a course or a credit, especially in this period.

About the language: I read what you tell me and I would be glad to help. In the meantime is it possible for me to tweak the EE language file of my installation? Does such a file exist?
This would be an immediate solution, even if I know that I should be careful not to lose it when updating.
Thank you
Federico

Hi,

I hear you about the certificate. We have an alpha version plugin that tries to fill this gap, but it hasn’t moved much forward recently as we are focusing on 4.0.

Perhaps in the future we will update it and release it.

All the language files can be found here https://github.com/eventespresso/languages.
You can add them to the uploads/espresso/languages folder in order to avoid losing them on update.

Be careful here, Githubs downloading methods are a bit weird:

To download the PO file – left click the link on the main page and then right click the Raw button in the top right of the page that comes up and save as.

To download the MO file – left click the link on the main page, and then left click the View Raw text link in the middle of the page that comes up.

If you don’t do this you may end up with a MO and PO file that contains garbage data and the language wont work.

+1 for the gift certificate!

2) We are working on a better solution in 4.0, but one way would be to create X number of events

How will it look like? The workaround with recurring events and multiple registration is a deal breaker for me unfortunately. My classes run 6 to 8 weeks with up to 16 sessions per class (Mondays and Fridays e.g.). With 25+ classes at the same time and each class starting 4 to 8 times a year, I normally have roundabout 150 events to manage. With your workaround I would have to work through a list of almost 2,000 events in the backend – only to have a nice calendar view of all sessions instead of just the sign-up date. Not working for me… 🙁

so again: will V4 have a solution for this? I cannot imagine that I am the only one struggling with this.

thanks
