Promotion codes not showing up

I might be missing something basic as it is my first coupon setup.

I have added a coupon 50% off in the promotion code manager and try to apply it to one of the event(class) we have.

In the event edit page, I enabled the ‘Allow discount codes?’ to ‘yes’ but still get an error message saying that the coupon is not valid or expired. I read that we can enable/activate a coupon per class but don’t see any coupons in the edit-event page; I can only see the ‘allow discount code’. Am I missing something?

In addition to selecting Yes, you also need to check the box next to the promo code that is allowed for that event. Otherwise you’re allowing promo codes, but haven’t defined which promo codes to allow. (Yes, this lacks a bit of common sense — if you’ve checked a box for a promo code it should probably be assumed that promo codes are allowed. Fear not, this is one of the things getting a bit of an overhaul in 3.2.)

Thanks for the answer. That’s what I’m missing; I don’t have any coupons showing up after enabling allow discount codes and updating the page.
Wasn’t showing in 3.1.24 and not in 3.1.25. I tried to manually add it the SQL DB under coupons_id but not sure of the format.

Have you created promo codes on the Promotional Codes page?

Yes, I did. Tried several browsers but nothing.
For now since I need this up today, I made it work by manually going in the MySQL DB and link the event and the promo but would love to have it working so if you have any ideas… Thanks again

Hi Patrick,

Is the Roles and Permissions add-on installed and active? If so, were the codes and the event created by the admin?

ahhh, that’s it. The event was created by an ‘Event Admin’ while the codes were create by an ‘admin’. I just check with an event created by ‘admin’ and saw the codes. As an admin, should I have full access? I checked the capabilities for ‘Admin’ and all is check.

Yes, the admin should have full access, if not, make sure all the capabilities for the admin are checked in the user roles manager.

The event admin can also create promo codes if the ‘discounts page’ capability is set for this user role in the permissions manager.

Where does one find this “Roles and Permissions” add-on? I think I have the same problem… Thanks!
