Hi I’ve got EE 3 Lite operating with lots of events and have some questions regarding the upgrade to the full 3 version (Business License)

1. Ticketing is included – does this mean one event can have multiple ticket options and a registrant can select any number and combination of these if required – up to a designated limit?
2. In mobile/tablet view the Lite option cannot differentiate between same day events displaying them all as the ‘same’ color block – so obviously mobile users can’t tell which event they’re selecting – is Pro able to customise with event colours and the calendar will display these?
3. All current event data in Lite – is there a way to keep this having upgraded or will I have to enter all new event info – based upon the newer categories/tickets set up?
4. Upgrading to 3 Pro – with the featured addons etc – what is the difference between this and the Pro Personal 4 license? As that’s obviously significantly cheaper?

Many thanks, Matt

Also – I customised the Lite Admin code to add a level above Completed from the status drop down options, in the events payment system – I needed a Redeemed option – to cope with attendees redeeming their tickets and showing on each day who was still yet to attend/redeem. Is this something you’ve thought about integrating at all?

Hi Matt,

1. Ticketing is included – does this mean one event can have multiple ticket options and a registrant can select any number and combination of these if required – up to a designated limit?

No, the ticketing add on means you can create custom tickets that the user can print or show on the mobile device for scanning at the event entrance – https://eventespresso.com/product/espresso-ticketing/

To allow users to select more than one ticket per event, you will need to use the Multiple Event Registration plugin, which adds a cart feature. Or use EE4.

Designated limits can be set by using the group booking system, so if you set it at a maximum of 10 only ten tickets can be purchased in a single registration. They can of course make multiple registrations.

2. In mobile/tablet view the Lite option cannot differentiate between same day events displaying them all as the ‘same’ color block – so obviously mobile users can’t tell which event they’re selecting – is Pro able to customise with event colours and the calendar will display these?

The calendar can change the “blob” colour dependant upon category. So category A can be blue, category b yellow, etc. Events with multiple categories will only use the top category colour.

3. All current event data in Lite – is there a way to keep this having upgraded or will I have to enter all new event info – based upon the newer categories/tickets set up?

If you are just upgrading to EE3 then it should pull across the data with no issue s(I still recommend doing a site back up and and event/attendee export though, purely precautionary but if something bad was to happen you would be grateful for the copy!).

Moving to EE4, again it should auto migrate as much of the data as possible over.

4. Upgrading to 3 Pro – with the featured addons etc – what is the difference between this and the Pro Personal 4 license? As that’s obviously significantly cheaper?

EE4 is in open Beta, thus the cheaper price as we are still ironing out kinks and there is a reduced feature set and add on set for EE4 (we are working hard to add more features and addons). That being said, EE4 is the next generation and has features that EE3 doesn’t.

I would recommend checking this article out for a more in depth anaylsis of the two – https://eventespresso.com/2014/02/event-espresso-4-beta-officially-released/

I needed a Redeemed option – to cope with attendees redeeming their tickets and showing on each day who was still yet to attend/redeem. Is this something you’ve thought about integrating at all?

Well that sounds awfully like the Checked in status that happens to be included in the Ticketing add on in EE3, or in EE4 by default. It doesn’t change them from Completed/Incomplete/etc., but has an additional column for checked in or not.

If you haven’t already, you can test EE4 out for free over at http://demoee.org

Please let me know if you have any more questions or need clarification!

Hi Dean

I’ve registered and I’m currently testing a lot of the features for EE4.

As ever I appreciate your thorough answers and easy explanations to my questions. I realise I’m coming at this in a way that you know inside out and there are more efficient ways to handle things than I’m probably doing.

My business isn’t the standard conference/event type registration – its actually a fairground which offers differing ticket/wristband types so the need to take lots of registration details or many other EE4 features isn’t really required – we have unlimited sales in the main and only really need to track that a purchaser/attendee had redeemed their confirmation email for the tickets or wristbands from one of multiple locations around the park – so that they can’t claim twice or more essentially. The check in might prove to be adequate though – if I can understand how it works, I appear to have multiple entries for a registrant when 1 would be fine 🙂

Thanks again, Matt

Hi,

No problem. We have had people use EE for things like flea markets before. It can work, though you may need to tweak things, including code, to make it ideal. It really depends on the exact set up.

If you have any more questions, just let me know.
