I updated my EventEspresso to the latest version, but then the beta download of the EE4 Automated Upcoming Event Notification Add-on is an out-of-date version that will not activate. I can find no place to download the later version. Can I revert EventEspresso to an older version that will allow the beta to activate? |
Yes the older versions are available on Github and can be used for testing purposes: https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-core/releases You’ll need Event Espresso 4.9.53.p or older to be able to test the Automated Upcoming Event Notification Add-on. |
If I download the older version, will I be able to install that version and replace the newer version that won’t allow the beta software to activate? |
You’ll remove the current version EE4 first because you’ll be replacing it with an older version. |
The choice for the current EE4 version seems to be deactivate. My plan would be to download the EE4 4.9.53.p, deactivate the current version and immediately activate |
I was able to download the suggested version of EE4 and get it activated, followed by activation of EE4 Automated Upcoming Event Notification Add-on. I have created a custom template for upcoming event notification email, but have the following issues. |
Hi Robc, With regards to items 1 & 3, that’s still something that needs to be worked out in the AUEN plugin and one of the reasons why it’s still in beta. With regards to item 2 if you have an email mailing list that’s not a list of registrations then the solution there would to use something like MailChimp or Emma. Event Espresso is not intended to be used for email newsletters and/or sending bulk emails to subscribers. Then notifications and messages features are designed for communicating with registrants that have bought tickets or registered for events. |
A few items about my club and the reasons for using EventEspresso for our website on which our meetings are posted. Based on your responses and my efforts with the new add-in, I think the new add-in is the only possibility for this, since MailPoet and the Batch email in EE4 do not allow for inclusion of shortcodes for the event. I am most eager to have this add-on go live as it is exactly what I need, with the exception that I need some way to get our static membership roster registered for each event or preferably, be able to address a fixed registrant list without having to manually register 110 members for each event. I hope you can help. |

Hi Rob, I can let you know when there’s an update available for the Automated Upcoming Event Notification Add-on. With regards to a way to get your static membership roster automatically registered for each event, Event Espresso doesn’t have this functionality. If you need to send emails to the same group of people a service like MailChimp or Emma is a better fit. |
Do you have an estimate of when the AUEN will be completed with beta testing and released for download and use? Do you have an estimate of when a system for bulk import of registrants might be available? I understand that one of your developers is working on such a system. |
I actually do not have an ETA for either of those, partly because development on both has been put on hold for now. |

Well, these two features seem to me to be the answer to my aim of having the event itself trigger an announcement to my fixed roster of club members. On your suggestion, I opened an email account with MailChimp (we already use it as our email sending program with our MailPoet newsletters), but the RSS feed feature and scheduling options offer no real solution for what I am hoping to do. Right now, we are left with creating an event, updating it with the speaker when determined and separately creating an email with the updated speaker information included, then scheduling the email for release seven days prior to the event. The MailPoet scheduling feature is completely satisfactory, but I have no way of including the event description and speaker information automatically. It must be separately added before the email is scheduled to go out. The RSS feeds are, for my purposes, no really a solution. I visualize, maybe incorrectly, that your AUEN add-in is the automated event notice feature I desire, with the caveat that I must be able to register all my club roster for each event. I will need some form of bulk registration capability, either at the event level or for all events offered by the club. I went through the option of having one event with multiple occurrences during the year, but this leaves us with a very unsatisfactory display on the website. Separate events are much the preferred method. If you have any other suggestions, I would very much appreciate them. Once again, we are a club with a static roster, meetings twice monthly, reminder emails for upcoming events and a different speaker for each meeting. |
Another suggestion would be to use MailChimp’s RSS feature, but instead of setting up the automatic campaign to point to the event RSS feed, point to a specific category RSS of your site’s blog. The blog posts could include all of the updated information about an upcoming event and MailChimp will automatically include that information in an automatic email sent to your subscribers after that blog post is published. |

Has this add-on been abandoned? |
This add-on has not been abandoned. It’s been shelved for the time being to allow for working on other priorities including GDPR compliance and compatibility with WordPress 5.0 & Gutenberg. |

Update: There’s a new beta version of the Automated Upcoming Event Notification that’s available now. While it’s not ready for official release, the new beta version is ready for the next round of testing. |
