I know it says here in this 2015 forum post

https://eventespresso.com/topic/edit-paid-attendee-name/

That the name of a registrant registered as part of a group, cannot be changed without deleting the entire registration and adding back each one individually.

Any chance that’s changed?

Our dilemma is that occasionally we’re getting a wrong name entered in a group of 12 registrations… yes, that’s a lot of work to re-enter 12 individuals ๐Ÿ™‚

Fingers crossed…

Hello Linda,

If you change the primary contact information, then that will apply to all registrations.

However, if you change the additional contact information by creating a new contact, then you can change the name.

Please see this post:

Sorry, Lorenzo, I followed the part about creating a new contact, but in the post you directed me to, it talks about creating new registrations and cancelling the old.

Just to clarify our particular situation:
One person registered two people for an event and has paid for both registrations through PayPal – and both payments are completed.
Unfortunately, they didn’t put contact information for the second person, so both registrations are currently for the same person.

I understand that if we tried to change the contact information on one of the registrations, we’d in effect be editing the contact info for every single registration that the person had ever made.

As I tried to re-think this, I’m looking at it now in these terms: every Registration is connected to one Contact. What we want to do is disconnect a Registration from one Contact and attach it to another Contact (a contact in this case that we would need to create from scratch as they’re not in the system yet).

The Registration is connected to a Payment Transaction, so we wouldn’t want to cancel the registration – just change the Contact to whom the Registration is connected…

Now that I better understand what it is we want to do, hopefully there’s a way to do it ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Linda,

I tested out the example that you shared and here is what I found.

The primary registrant (first person) will be the person paying. If you change that record via Event Espresso –> Registrations and then click through on the primary registrant, then this will change the name for any registrations that this registrant/attendee has made.

However, you can still change the name for the second attendee by clicking to view that registration and then using this option:

Referring to your example, are you seeing the button above on the second registrant/attendee (it won’t appear for the primary registrant)?

Ahhhhh – I see the button at the bottom of the Contact box. If I’d been a bit more patient, the popup tooltip has the clue. The button itself says Create Contact, but of course it already has a contact, so my brain ignored the button. The popup tooltip does explain that you can Change the registration’s contact.

Thanks Lorenzo!

Follow-up clarification:

The Create Contact button spoken of above is visible ONLY when you have had multiple registrations made by one person, and instead of filling out separate names for each registration, they’ve accidently kept the same contact info for each registration. When you create the new Contact, it becomes attached to the registration, instead of the person who did the initial registering on behalf of a group of people.

When the multiple registrations have been made in the names of different people, there is no Create Contact button, and that’s one of the circumstances under which other people in the forum have been asking: how can I change the name of the registrant?

Hello,

You can edit the contact information for the additional registrants via the edit contact button.
