Hello
EE4 is currently active on my blog: http://www.blog.hoffmann-italia.it/eventi
The events are locked in this moment and I’m testing the registration pages.
The main problem is with emails: I do not receive email confirmations when I register to an event or I receive it really late (like 1 day after).
How can I improve this service?
It is so important for registrants to receive a confirmation email after registration and even more after payment.
Daisy

Hi Daisy,

If you go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Settings.

You’ll find the option ‘Generate and send all messages’, set that to ‘On same request’ and save, then test another registration, do you receive the email instantly then?

Yes, now I do. Thank you.
It works good with gmail and with our server email account. It is slower with hotmail, but less than 20 minutes so it is acceptable.
But there are still problems with Outlook: I’ve never received emails in my business email, which is accessible through Microsoft Outlook…

There are 2 ways in which emails are generated in EE, with the option you have set currently the emails are generated and sent all on the same request the user made to register on the event. This means the email is triggered at that point and then passed over to your mail server for it to do whatever it does. As soon as the email is passed over to your server EE doesn’t have any control over what happens so the delay your now seeing is the time it takes for the mail server to send the email and the receiving server to show it in your mailbox.

The previous setting you had used WP Cron to ‘queue’ the emails and then generate them a little later (5 mins) on another request, then send them to your server on another request (another 5 mins). The way in which the email is passed to your server is exactly the same, its just the way the email is generated to begin with that is different.

So right now, the delays your seeing from Event Espresso and the emaisl arriving on some accounts but not others is also not from Event Espresso (EE doesn’t care where the email is going, it passess all emails to the server). Have you checked the spam folder for the outlook account?

Yes, of course I checked the spam folder.
In fact, previously the emails where more than 10 minutes late…it took like 3 hours or even they got lost.
Anyway, I will try to solve this someway.
Is it possible to send emails via mailchimp? I read this article about improving email sending.

Yes, of course I checked the spam folder.

They may be getting dropped by the mailserver before they even reach your mailbox, but if EE shows the email as sent when you view the message queue then the problem is outside of EE.

In fact, previously the emails where more than 10 minutes late…it took like 3 hours or even they got lost.

Likely a mixture of the above and the WP Cron method I mentioned earlier, the message was taking longer to generate and send, then the mailserver simply added to that time.

Is it possible to send emails via mailchimp? I read this article about improving email sending.

MailChimp is for campaigns, but they do offer a transactional email service (paid) called Mandrill or you’ll find some other options here:

Thank you very much Tony for your explainations. I will think about that.
Have a nice day!
