Hi, hoping you can help.

We are trying to update my client’s version of EE4 and keep getting an error ( Update Failed: 504 Gateway Time-out The server didn’t respond in time. ).

We have been able to update the other plugins on her site without any issue, just not EE4. Do you know what could be causing this at all?

Hi there,

Are you still running into problems if you try to update now?

The error above means your server didn’t receive a response from ours, however I’ve just updated one of my test sites without an issue.

I just tried updating now and still getting the same error message.

Is it possible to upload via FTP? Will this have an effect on any current sittings, events set up, etc?

Is it possible to upload via FTP?

Yes. You could also follow these steps:
1) Download the plugin from your account page on this site
2) Deactivate and delete the old version of Event Espresso.
​3) Upload the new plugin to your site via Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New.
4) Activate the plugin.

Will this have an effect on any current sittings, events set up, etc?

This will not have an effect on settings or events because all of those things are stored separately in the site’s database.

All good now, removed the old version and uploaded the new and everything is happy again
