Paypal IPN too slow – Customers "incomplete" after paying

People were getting to the “thank you” page and being prompted to pay again because it was still marked incomplete due to slow paypal IPN.

So what I did was hide the [event_espresso] code with css to stop the user confusion – EE seems to get angry if the shortcode isn’t in the thank you page – but now I can’t send emails to prompt people to pick up where they left off in the registration.

Is there a way to either:
a) Fix the delay with the Paypal IPN so that paid users aren’t prompted to pay again.
b) Do a workaround fix where Paypal sends paid users to a custom thank you page while maintaining the [espresso_payments] shortcode in a separate page to allow for email prompts for users to pick up where they left off.

Hi there Kyle,

The IPN comes from the PayPal servers so we can’t speed up the response time from our end.
