I’ve seen a few posts about this but I don’t see any resolution. I bought this plugin for Paypal integration but it says it’s deprecated for Paypal Express? I don’t have (and don’t want) a Paypal Pro account. So… do I just use this regardless and hope it works? It’s been deprecated now for 2 years. Is there a Paypal Checkout integration option I’m missing? If we are still using Paypal Express – are there any known issues? Any help appreciated. |
Hi, You don’t need a PayPal Pro account to use PayPal Express, and PayPal Express is not deprecated. I think you’re referring to PayPal Standard, which uses the IPN. That’s what was deprecated. You can use your PayPal account with PayPal Express by following the set up documentation: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/paypal-express-payment-gateway/#locate |

Thanks Josh All online docs seem to lead to this page which states the methods are deprecated? (I wasn’t making it up 😀 ) https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/express-checkout/integration-guide/ECReference/ Where do I find Paypal’s Express documentation? |
Hi there,
You are correct, PayPal Express has been deprecated, however, it’s not End Of Life they just aren’t adding new features to it, it currently functions as expected and there are no known issues with the EE4 PayPal Express payment method. It’s highly unlikely PayPal will simply drop support for Express checkout at this time, they have far to many integrations using it for them to do so. However, if that actually did happen we would need to provide another integration in its place. Currently if you wish to use the latest available integration from PayPal we have an add-on that uses PayPal Checkout here: |

OK thanks – conflicting advice there but I managed to set it up. let’s hope it’s supported until the new integration is ready! Cheers guys |
The first was a mistake, the second a correction.
Until which new integration is ready? We aren’t working on a new integration right now. PayPal smart buttons is using PayPal Checkout and it is available now: https://eventespresso.com/product/eea-paypal-smart-buttons/ This is the message displayed by PayPal concerning PayPal Express:
They aren’t dropping support for PayPal Express, they just aren’t adding new features/enhancements to the API. If/When they choose to completely drop support they will at last update the above with a specific date in which that API will no longer function. |
