Hi, I see in 2015 there were a few queiries abour PayFast (we are based in South Africa and this is the preferred online payment gateway). However there were issues with updates. Can you tell me if this has been sorted and whether I can safely use PayFast now with Event Espresso 4? The reference support ticket is:

Hi Kate,
No this has not changed, the cause of the problem is due to how PayFast have chosen to add the payment method. The correct method to adding a new payment method to EE would be to create a plugin that hooks into EE and loads the payment method through a hook (we provide methods and instructions on how to do this in the developer documentation).
PayFast have created their own payment method and instruct you to copy that payment method into the core EE plugin rather than hooking in and loading it through another plugin. This means that every time you update EE the PayFast will be removed and will need to be re-added.
When you update a plugin WordPress deletes the original, downloads the new version and extracts it in the plugins folder if you’ve modified the original plugin (adding a payment directly to the plugins directory for example) those modifications will be lost. This is true for any plugin, not just Event Espresso.
I’m not sure why they’ve chose to use this method.
Note that as we did not write the PayFast payment method we can not provide support for it, you will need to contact PayFast themselves for further details.
