I just updated the live site to the latest version of ee4 and now get Nothing in your Event Queue when trying to register for an event. The test site worked fine and they are on the same server. Any ideas what might cause this?

I have had to restore to the version that was being used before I tried to update to 4.8.9. Everything works again. My live site is apparently stuck on 4.6.22. I would like to know what might be causing this because I really need to do the update for the new features and fixes and to use promotions plugin. Development site works on 4.8.9. Its on the same server (VPS). There is no caching.

Hi Maurice,

Does the test site have all of the same plugins, theme etc installed as the live?

If you go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System Info.

Search for session.save_path, has a value been set for that?

on the live site that has been restored back to version 4.6.22 this is what is set for that value. global_value /var/lib/php/session
local_value /var/lib/php/session
access 7

The test site that is running version 4.8.9 has the same values set.

The test site is on the same server. It’s a VPS and I have it set up as a subdomain where I test everything before going live. It has the same theme and plugins. 4.8.9 works fine there but I ran into problems when I tried it on the live site. There were no errors during the migration.

I don’t have alot of chances to do upgrades on the live site so when I ran into problems and couldn’t figure it out I restored it hoping I could get some clue as to what it might be for when I try it again.

Same server doesn’t always mean the same setup as you can have custom configs per directory so have to ask 🙂

If the configs are the same for both, and the same plugins and theme active on dev it is really strange to have that issue on one site but now the other.

How did you update to 4.8.9, through the dashboard or ftp?

Definitely no caching on the server? At all (including server side and WP plugins)?

There is no caching. On the test server I deleted the old version from the server and used FTP to upload the new. On the live site I used the dashboard plugin update. The live site has many more events and users. I’ll probably try to upgrade again next weekend but was hoping I could get some ideas on what to check when I run into the problem again.

Hi Maurice,

One idea is the live site’s database had a failed update somewhere along the way so Event Espresso wasn’t able to update the database.

Here are a few things you can check:

1) Check for the presence of a .maintenance file in the live site’s directory
2) Check the database structure for the _esp_line_item table. Specifically, the LIN_desc column should be type text. If it’s something else, like varchar(245), its type needs to be updated to be text.

Just wanted to let you know that I did the update to 4.8.9 again this morning and everything worked this time. The event queue issue does not occur. I noticed at least a couple of other postings here that seemed to describe the same issue and de-activating and re-activating the plugin resolved the issue for them. I only needed to upload the new version and it worked right away. I think you can mark this as resolved. Thank you.
