I’ve got an event set up, and a venue created which is selected in the event, the venue has an address defined, and the API key installed for GoogMaps, but I’m not a first-timer and I’ve done this before without this kind of problem – what have I missed? |
Hi there, For (a), you go to Event Espresso > Events > Templates and set “Display Venue Details” to Yes. For (b), do the venue details begin displaying with the Yoast SEO plugin deactivated? |
part (a) – Oh, look – a preference I’d not seen to show the venue on the event page! I turned that on, and now I at least get the name and address but still no map. part (b) – no change. Or maybe this is normal? |
The reason there’s no map is because of this error: Which means the referrer URL in your Google Maps account is missing or incorrect. B, no, that’s not normal. If deactivating the Yoast SEO plugin did not help, then this might be a theme issue. Does the venue information display if the site is temporarily switched to another WordPress theme. You can use this plugin: |

(a) – ok, I added both the top-level and page specific URLs to the map api, no error messages. Still no map displayed. (b) – not so worried about that…unless (b) if part of the (a) problem. Test drive plugin looks like a handy tool. I’ll get to that |
I’m still seeing an error for the map on your site, and it still says your site URL isn’t authorized. When you set up the HTTP referrers in your Google APIs account, you’ll need to be sure to include a trailing slash. So for your site, the only referrer URL that you should need will be:
On the Google page gardennative.org/* is listed now, & I have reverified ownership. Ownership verification of *gardennative.org/* didn’t work out. Yoast is off. Still no map displayed. |
The maps API doesn’t use the site ownership verification. You’ll need to set the referrer URL in API console. If you’re logged into your API account, you can follow this link to get to the API console: https://console.developers.google.com/projectselector/apis/credentials then you select the project, the Browser API key, then you enter the referrer URL into the field that says Accept requests from these HTTP referrers (web sites) |
ok, went thru and re-did all that in the API console. No maps yet. |
Are you sure there’s no maps? I checked and it’s showing a map now. |

(a) oh, so it is! I guess I didn’t wait long enough for the API permission to propagate. Thanks very much – probably would have taken me weeks to figure that out on my own! Maybe not the first time you’ve seen this question? (b) Venue page still blank – maybe that’s a theme problem. I’ll have to tackle that later. Thanks! |
I checked your site and since it’s running the Weaver Xtreme theme it’s probably not the theme, unless the theme has been customized. It may be another plugin in the mix that’s affecting the Venues page. |
