I have the ticket add on which I am using for an event that has $25 a ticket or 2 for $40. If someone purchases 2 for $40 can I have two tickets available for download in the same purchase so they can be scanned at the event? what is the best way to handle this?

Hi Mike,

A ticket is created for each item that is purchased.

You could use the volume discount addon to automatically apply a discount if two tickets are purchased:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/volume-discount-add-on/

This is available from the pre-release channel so you would need to join that before you can download it.

when you say “each item” what do you mean is that each price? Can I enable users to select a quantity to purchase or do I enter multiple prices and that is each item? What if each ticket needs a persons name can that be one purchase or multiple tickets and different names on each tickets? I am relatively new to EE so I just need the best direction.

Right, in EE3 the word “pricing”. In EE4, pricing is referring to as tickets.

Here is what that might look like:

And the settings for this are:

enable group registrations
require personal information from additional attendee

The limit of 5 is set through the event options area (screenshot above). It can be raised or lowered.

ok, this is all starting to make sense. so if I am reading this correctly, I need the volume discount addon installed and i need to enable group registrations with a limit of 2 so users can purchase only one ticket or two at a discount. is this correct or do i need another addon to make volume discount addon to work?

Yes, you would want to set 2 as the threshold. The is the point where the discount will apply.

Just the volume discount addon will be needed as it will apply the discount on its own once enabled.

If you are interested in providing coupon codes to your attendees/registrants, then those can be created through the promotion codes screen.

I have the volume discount add-on installed and I setup a discount based on registration with a threshold of (2) – discount amount of (20) discount type (percentage discount) and a category is selected. I also went into the event and made sure the category matched the category the discount was for, but the event also has other categories selected as well. When I start the registration and add two additional attendees for a total of 3 no discount is applied and it just shows the single ticket price $25 x 3 = $75 and no mention of discount. how can I be sure the volume discount is enabled?

Hi Mike,

Please double check the Volume Discounts settings and make sure the category has been clicked there.

However, what I think is happening is that you are not using the Multiple Event Registration addon. As per the documentation:

The Volume Discount add on, only works in conjunction with the Multiple Event Registration (MER) add on, it will not function correctly without it.

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/volume-discounts/

As far as I can tell from your site, it isn’t using MER, so the discount won’t apply.

You can add the addon and then add an add to cart link via shortcode into your description (the addon will auto add an add to cart link in the event list).

I installed the MER and now it is working with the shortcode. some bugs I noticed (at least I think they are bugs) were the mini cart total shows the before discount total. After entering the attendee info and I am in the payment overview the mini cart shows the correct after discount total.

I tested this and submitted three tickets going through all screens and stopped on the paypal site login screen after clicking the paypal button on our site. No email was generated to me stating that I started a purchase and needed to pay but I did show three tickets pending payment. My concern is two things 1.) did an email get sent and I did not receive it due to un-authenticated mail or 2.) is it standard that no mail is sent until paid, but what if the user closes teh paypal screen by accident and wants to pay from an email assuming they get one?

I am using “send a custom email set to yes”

thank you for staying with me on this.

Hi Mike,

Can you go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Under Email Settings you’ll find ‘Send registration confirmation emails before payment is received?’ is that currently set to No?

Mike Danchanko

it was set to no. if I set that to yes will it send confirmation with the option to pay or will it be the actual ticket print link and all? I just do not want to confuse people so which would you recommend?

Hi Mike,

If that option is set to yes, then they’ll receive a payment pending email which includes a link to complete the payment.

With EE3 they’ll actually receive the ‘Confirmation Email’ be it the default or a custom one if you have it set (which it appears you do).

If you include the ticket link ([ticket_link] shortcode) within this email then yes they would in-fact be receiving a link they can use to print their tickets so it could cause confusion.

The confirmation emails are triggered in 2 ways…

If Send registration confirmation emails before payment is received?’ = Y
The email is sent when the attendee is added to the database, this is when they have input the details and confirmed the registration.

If ‘Send registration confirmation emails before payment is received?’ = N
The email is sent only once a successful payment has been made and the Registration status has been set to ‘Complete’.

Unfortunately with EE3 there are no other emails sent before the Confirmation email (other than a Payment Confirmation) in which you could include a ‘Pay Later’ link

ok, I have changed it to NO – so emails only get sent when payment is received becasue I agree it would not be good to provide a ticket if they did not pay.

does EE4 address this differently? I cannot upgrade at this point becasue of the ticket scanning ability not there.

In EE4, they will receive a registration pending payment email and a registration approved email after payment.
