Multi Events Booking Message Templates Default to Global

I’ve run into an issue with multiple event bookings and the message notifications set in the event.

Each of our events, has a different registration approved message template selected. As each event has different instructions on how to join/prepare for the course/event.

But when I put through a booking of two events together (using the Multi Event Registration plugin), the registration approved message defaults to the global Event Registration message content.

The message received is the default registration approved message, which won’t contain the details the user needs to sign onto/prepare the course.

Is there any way to make the custom message notification set at event level work when the event is checked out as part of a multiple event booking?

The custom registration approved message works fine when the event is checked out by itself.

I’m running EE4 Version 4.7.9.p and Multi Event Registration Version 2.0.2.p.
I’ve tried also updating to the EE4 4.8.11 and Multi Event Registration Version 2.0.5.p. but the issue still remained. (The update also caused additional issues, hence why I’ve reverted).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris,

It turns out that Multi Event Registration was designed to send only one message per registration. You can get the detailed explanation in our documentation:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-multiple-event-registration-add-on/#messages_custom_global_templates

So while there isn’t a way to make the custom message notification set at event level work when the event is checked out as part of a multiple event booking, I think you can accomplish what you’re looking to do with one global message template. The solution involves crafting a global notification so it includes the information needed for each event.

For example, where you have a sentence like this in your custom message:

Full joining instructions and course details will follow by post from our sister company {company name} who are delivering this course.

Instead of a different message to change that company name, you can do this instead:

Full joining instructions and course details will follow by post from our sister company [EVENT_META_* company_name] who are delivering this course.

Then you can specific the company name in a meta key field in the event editor.

Please note that the above shortcode is available in newer versions of Event Espresso 4, so if you’d like some help on getting the software up to date, please let us know about the issues you found after updating and we will help.
