Modify shortcode output without changing core plugin files

Hello Espresso Users,

Quick question: Do you know a nice clean way to modify EE shortcode output without modifying the core plugin? Keeping changes in a separate file would help with maintenance / upgrades to EE etc. BTW I’m asking about EE4.
