Original thread: https://eventespresso.com/topic/messages-css-embedded-not-our-email-cloning-events/ I’m resubmitting one part of a previous ticket. I believe someone had to close the ticket b/c I was too slow to respond to a question from Tony about this….what follows is the unresolved part of the inquiry, Tony’s reply, and my reply to that reply. http://screencast.com/t/8ZZW4kCTpR2L Thanks! TONY’S REPLY: Hi Brent, 1) Is this happening on all of the message types or only the one edited? As you mention this only happened after editing the template I’m wondering if the syntax is wrong somewhere. However usually when the CSS is included within the email the email is being marked as potential spam and sent as plain text, the email client will then try to output what it can. Which version of EE4 are you currently using? We are currently on EE 4.4.0. ————————

Please ignore that last line above….accidental duplication ….. |

Hi there, Could you please create a temporary WordPress admin login so we can take a closer look at this issue? Be sure to let us know the message type that has been edited. To prevent delays in troubleshooting, be sure to double check your information on the form before submitting. The submit button for the form appears at the end of the form. Again, please ensure that the temporary login works. Thank you. — |

Hi Lorenzo, I’ve just reset all the templates and it’s still coming out super weird in my gmail inbox. Sending you login details now. Brent |

Hi, Please update to the current version of Event Espresso. Also, setup a transactional email service like Postmark app or Mandrill: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/postmark-app-mandrill-transactional-email-handling-services/ — |

Lorenzo, does EE count on these services to have this work properly? |
|
Also, do you have a help page on making this work properly? |

Hi Brent, Forum threads automatically close after 14 days of inactivity. If/When this happens the best course is to just open up another (as you have done so) and we can continue on (depending on the thread we may also merge it with the previous one). I’ll explain a little how the emails work so you can understand what I think happening. Event Espresso uses a core WordPress function ‘wp_mail()’ to send your emails. wp_mail() simply structures the email and passes it onto your server. From here your server can do any number of steps, all of which EE has no control over. The problem is that whilst most hosts offer email as a convenience, they are not strictly email providers. Meaning they have simply set-up the server to allow you send to emails (sounds the same but in-fact it is not) So EE passes your email to wp_mail(), wp_mail() passes the email to your server, your server does x,y,z and sends the email. The problem is that if any configuration issues are present within x,y or z your email can be marked as spam. If the server has been listed as suspicious within spam filtering services (someone has sent a mass email from that IP address for example) your email can be mark as potential spam. All of this causes the email to display the HTML/CSS within the email. So to answer your question:
No, EE can function perfectly fine without these services, however you will improve your email reliability when using these services. You can also see indepth reporting of your emails when using them. Postmark/Mandrill basically removes your server from the equation, wp_mail() passes the email to them instead of your server. Personally I would recommend Mandrill, its free up to 12,000 emails per month. The thread Lorenzo linked to includes a link to a post that shows you how to setup Mandrill |
