Hi,
ESSA need to set up an event with a “Maximum number of tickets allowed per order for this event:” of 480.
The field accepts this number but then after update the field is given a value of 255.
Is there a way to change this and allow the larger number?

Not currently, however, that field basically sets the max number of tickets a user can select in a single group registration. So to confirm, you want the ability for a single registrant to select up to 480 tickets in a single step?
The problem with the above is each ticket creates a registration within EE and we often find that most users servers are not capable of creating up to 255 registrations in a single request.

I fed your comment back to the client with a couple of options of how they can proceed. They have booked each day separately on behalf of their client and will raise a manual invoice.
Interesting about server capability. I know they do say the server sometimes seems to struggle, but I would have to ask the person responsible for the hosting for more details.
I’ll mark this as resolved for now though.
