Hi, I currently have event expresso and a mailchimp integration installed with a valid api key. However on the 13th/04th in the mailchimp log, I received an alert saying “Invalid Mailchimp API key” and from that point onwards, my API key was deleted and my data from registrations stopped syncing to mailchimp. This has happened multiple times now. Please assist me on how I can stop having the API key being removed for no reason on my account. Thanks, Emile |
Hello Emile, Thank you for contacting us today and sorry for the issue you are facing. Can you please confirm if you have made any changes to the website on 13th? Also, can you please confirm if you are using the latest version of the plugin (v2.4.5.p). Please confirm the above, so that I can help you better regarding the issue. Thank you. |

Hey Sam, 1. No major changes that would effect mailchimp or the plug-in were made 2. I am using Version 2.4.5.p The API key disappearing has been happening over a span of 4+ months now, so I’m certain it’s not due to changes done to the website. Looking forward to hearing what your next steps are. Also, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, still the same issue happened later on, |

However I beleive my wordpress hasnt been updated to 5.9.3 if that makes in difference |
Hi Emile, Something to note here is that the MailChimp details aren’t stored within the plugin files but rather the site’s database so for them to go missing, seems to be happening with the database rather than the plugin itself, so with that said, this:
Is now not as clear cut 🙂 Is it ‘just’ the key that gets removed or does the MailChimp Mailchimp setting completely revert to default? If unsure, check say the ‘Skip double opt-in emails’ checkbox for now and when the key vanishes again see if that option also reverts (if it does it likely means the Mailchimp config is being dropped from the database somehow). Is there a pattern to when this is happening? For example, does the key disappear after a set amount of time and if so, do you have any security plugins running around those dates? It’s also possible your host is doing some kind of scan on the database and doesn’t like the API key (I don’t know why they wouldn’t but the above isn’t something I can reproduce so I’m trying to think of possible causes for this). If its completely random, does anyone else have access to the EE settings? Again, I’m not pointing the finger at anyone else, but if so, it’s worth checking they have the correct permissions on their account and aren’t somehow managing to loads the settings page but then on save done have permissions to do so and it wipes the settings (that in itself would be odd anyway) |

Thanks for getting back to me Tony, I will implement those suggestions you recommended. In the meantime, I do have another person that has log-in details to WordPress that manages the admin side of things with EE registrations. Could this be why the issue is happening? And if so, what would you recommend? |
