Hello

We have EE 3.1.32.2 (soon to be updated to the latest EE3). I have a quick question about the MailChimp addon. If we have an existing contact in MailChimp, will the addon update that contact if the contact collected by the addon in event expresso is the same ( (ie same email, first name, last name as the existing contact). Is would the existing contact be updated to be placed into the group?

Regards
Joe

Hi Joe,

Mailchimp contact or subscriber?

When the EE3 mailchimp add-on tries to subscribe the user to the list it will fail if that user is already subscribed, however if that is the case the add-on will attempt to update the current subscriber that matches the details to include the new groups selected on the current event.

Is that what you are looking for?

Thanks Tony – yes that was what I was looking for (sorry I meant subscriber) – just wanted to check that if the subscriber was already in the relevant malchimp list that the EE3 mailchimp addon would still update the subscriber details in the mailchimp list to include the subscriber in the group selected in the addon. Hi Tony – I have a quick follow-up question (not sure whether I need to open a separate topic for this one) – but does the mailchimp addon automatically add the person registering for an event to the selected mailchimp list. Or does the person register for the event, then receive an email with a confirmation link that they need to click to be added to the mailchimp list (I have read some posts that seem to say the latter is how it works in practice). Regards, Joe

No problem, just checking I wasn’t missing a feature in MailChimp.

Same thread is fine, we usually split threads per user as each specific question/user case is different so its better to work on each in its own thread but multiple questions on similar subjects is perfectly fine.

Correct, the MailChimp add-on by default will trigger an email from MailChimp to confirm the subscriptions, the double opt in email is from MailChimp themselves:

http://kb.mailchimp.com/lists/signup-forms/understanding-the-double-opt-in-process

It is the recommended process for adding subscribers to your list so is how the add-on works by default.

With EE4 we introduced an option to select if you want to use double opt in or not but that is not available in the EE3 add-on.
