Hi. We’ve been using EE for about 18 months with great success, thank you. We use it for bookings of blocks of yoga classes. These are generally repeat bookings and we like to open the next block up to those who were on the previous block before offering the remaining slots to those on the rest of the list. We achieve this by adding Mailchimp subscribers to a group within the list when they purchase so that we can offer them first choice for the next block. For the last couple of months the adding to group functionality has not worked and I’ve had to do this manually from the registrations list. It’s frustrating as this is virtually the *only* reason that we have the Mailchimp addon (indeed the reason that we settled on EE as the solution!!) as clients are generally already on the list when they purchase. Can you help me work out why it’s stopped working please? |
Hi there, I just did some testing using the MailChimp Add-on with adding a subscription to a list and updating a current subscribers groups, both worked fine. So can you confirm the version number of the MailChimp add-on you are using and the version of Event Espresso core? If you view the MailChimp group on your list, did you add them as hidden? – http://take.ms/3OEmo In your MailChimp API log (Name in the top right, Account -> Extras -> API Keys) at the bottom of the page, you’ll see a list of API calls – http://take.ms/4u9Im Do you see any errors there (Red X’s)? They only log for 24 hours on mailchimp, so you may need to run a test registration, confirm that doesn’t update the groups on that contact and then view the logs for any errors shown. |

Hi Tony. Thanks for your prompt reply. To answer your Qs… WordPress Version: 4.9.5 The group is not hidden. I do see 2 sets of red Xs: I wonder whether this is due to another oddity I’ve been experiencing..the Mailchimp fields don’t seem to map correctly. I have to change them when I set up an event to match correctly, but then the Last Name is populated with the email address like they’re getting switched!? |
This is how they appear to initially mapped when setting up a new Event |
That is likely the problem or least a symptom of the problem as it points to issues with your sites questions. What happened to the site around 2 months ago when this stopped working? |
Nothing of note. 🙁 |
I have tried the usual troubleshooting steps of disabling the plugin (and all plugins) without any success. |
Can you add a screenshot of Event Espresso -> Registration form -> Questions? Just the first page that has Questions with ID’s 1-10 is fine. |
Here you go..I’ve not touched this page since it was initially set up. |
Hmm, ok, so you should only have a single set of system questions there and you have 2 sets. So when you select the questions in the event itself, you may be selecting the question that isn’t actually used in the group, so then mailchimp gets empty values. Last screenshot, on the above page, go to the top right and under screen options ticket the ‘ID’ column so the question ID’s are shown on the table, then screenshot that please. |
Thought you might say that! 🙂 Doesn’t look like I can delete the extra set either?! BTW I never select Qs when I create an event, are you saying I should? |
By ‘never select questions’ I mean I leave them as default (whatever that is) |
Nope, EE doesn’t allow you to delete system questions, the reason being is that if you have registrations linked to those questions you’ll break the registrations (as the questions no longer exist).
Huh? You don’t select the questions that should be sent to MailChimp? |
Sorry,I was unclear I obviously map the fields from the MailChimp drop down lists. But I leave the registration questions above as default ? |
So in other words, I don’t edit these… But I do map these: |
Ok, so did this site migrate over from EE3 or was this a clean install? The problem is that when you select these questions – https://monosnap.com/file/oyNU72fDV5tcgcUovbSmkLg3XNxebb You don’t know if you are selecting the question the user answered, or the ‘duplicate’ question that they didn’t answer. OK, on this page – https://monosnap.com/file/SBKwcXlnAHi7lGzb913K0ji9C0Twfv Edit questions with ID’s 2, 4 and 6. Change the ‘Question text’ of each of those to have 2 on the end, ‘First Name 2’, ‘Last Name 2’, ‘Email Address 2’ etc. Now go to one of your events, select tickets and submit so that you see the registration form, make sure none of the questions show the ‘2’, they should show like they do now, like this – http://take.ms/m4fua Do any of them show 2? |
Hi Tony. I’m 99.9% certain that this is a clean install. I’ve edited the Q titles as you suggested and can confirm that it’s the ‘non’ 2 titles that appear in both the reg forms and the Mailchimp mappings. |
Here are screen shots…. Edited fields: Registration form: Mailchimp mappings unchanged by rename: |
Ok, can I take a quick look in the admin? If so you can use this form to send temp login details: |
Just submitted them… Thanks! |
Thank you, I’ve replied via email as I’ll need FTP credentials to investigate this a little further and see what details/question/answers are actually being sent over to MailChimp during the subscription call. If you can follow up there I’ll dig into this a little more. |
