I’m looking for a shortcode that allows the same functionality as the sidebar widget for the homepage of my client’s site. Now After having purchased this, I’m finding that the documentation is a little light and I’m needing a hand with where and how to adjust the CSS and whether I can do that dynamically too. As it’s not falling in line with the CSS of my WordPress site.

Cheers!

Hi Arlen,

The widget needs to be used in a widget ready area, there isn’t a shortcode to display it. You can create new ones quite easily though http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgetizing_Themes

Looking through the available shortcodes we have there really isn’t anything similar to the widget. You could possibly force the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode to do what you are asking with a bunch of CSS, but I think adding a new widget area would be easier.

“how to adjust the CSS and whether I can do that dynamically too”

Generally, if the CSS is added to the bottom of the themes style.css file or via a plugin like My Custom CSS, the newly added CSS will over rule anything added by Event Espresso. Also Themeroller is active by default (see Template Settings in the Event Espresso menu) and this can be deactivated to give a more “bare bones” look.

“I’m finding that the documentation is a little light”

I would love to hear your thoughts on where the documentation is lacking, we are always looking to improve the documentation so feedback is very much welcome.

I’m not looking for use the widget in the BODY of the page, or making a new one, I am wanting to know about a [shortcode] that will provide just a listing of Events without any additional information that can be used within a table or column.

Is there a contact phone number that I can talk to someone directly? this is very difficult to try to sort out the issues of Event Espresso with only having this forum, which does not have many solutions on it. For paying $175 on your software to find out that the issues that I’m having and trying to tailor it to my use is a little steep. It’s not working at suggested at the moment.

I need to discuss this with someone over the phone.

Cheers!

The documentation on the EVENT_LIST shortcode is here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/shortcodes-template-variables/#event-list. There are also a number of table display shortcodes available in the custom-files add-on.

I’ve read your documentation and have tried all your shortcodes and yet there is nothing that is clear with your documentation at all. I’m looking for a SC that allows a simple listing that similar to the widget for the body of the HTML page, however it doesn’t seem to exist. Event Espresso is not functioning as intended, and I’ve been trying to get support for the issues that have are taking place. This IS NOT working at all like you describe in your sales pitch. I should have been able to install it and get it running in minutes, now it’s been two weeks and still doesn’t work. And I’m getting upset because everyone’s response is either 50 words or less or misses the mark on my question(s).

$175 for software that doesn’t function as stated. Documentation that is lacking, and a support structure that isn’t overly helpful other than recommending that I “purchase a $65 support token to have help with my issue(s)” which may not be the final cost.

So what is it going to be?

let me restate I’m looking for a shortcode that allows a listing of titles only, in the body font, with no additional information (like the sidebar widget):

Event 01
Event 02
Event 03
Event 04
etc.

And I would like to know where the fundamental CSS is and a breakdown of what your CSS is for so that I can tie in the CSS of the theme. As EE does not take on any aspects of the theme at all.

We do not have such a shortcode available off-the-shelf. To have one written for you such as:

you would need to contact a developer (https://eventespresso.com/developers/event-espresso-pros/), have them write it for you, then place such a piece of code in your theme’s functions.php file, or the Event Espresso custom-files add-on.
You may want to try disabling the themeroller stylesheets in the EE->Template Settings, then the main EE CSS is in templates/css/espresso_default.css. Of course, any rules that you place in using the My Custom CSS plugin (http://wordpress.org/plugins/my-custom-css/) that have greater specificity that the default EE CSS rules would override the default EE CSS rules.
