License Key and Staging

I’m developing a site using a staging domain which is .net. The real site will be the same name, but a .org. Once the site is complete, I was just going to point both domains to the .net location. Is this going to be a problem with the site license key? I haven’t entered it yet since it recommends not to, until it is in the final location. The problem is, I see there are updates now to the plugins, but you only get them if you enter the key.

Any advice?

Hi Linda,

As you point out we only recommend adding the licence key to the live site you will be using. You can still update the development site, but you would need to manually update it by downloading the latest version from your account page.

1. download the plugin from the account page
2. back up your site (optional but recommended)
3. de-activate Event Espresso and delete the plugin
4. go to Plugins > Add new and click upload
5. upload the new version you got from the account page and activate.

You can also do this via FTP http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation
