So I have no idea if there is ever a fool-proof registration system, but we recently just had a registration using EE4 for the first time. We typically get about 100 or so people go on to register right when our registration opens. Some people reported issues, others had no issues. But, it would be nice for all of our customers to experience a smooth registration process. I realize there are a lot of factors involved when individual situations occur, but just thought I’d send along to get any thoughts: 1) Registration email confirmations lagged, so we had people panicking they didn’t get in because confirmations did not come right away. 2) misc. issues where error messages popped up before even having opportunity to make mistake, system crash, etc. Is it browser related, hosting, system, or just general software? Overall, we would like to have a seamless registration day but always tend to have someone who’s affected by something. Thank you for your consideration! |
Hi Erin,
Event Espresso issues an email through WordPress, which then passes it to your server. Your server can do any number of steps before the email is finally sent. As registrations are made through your site, what ‘should’ happen on your server is the emails are queued and sent. The bigger the queue the longer this takes. If you are using shared hosting, your mailserver may be servicing 100’s (or many more) other sites, all who add emails to the queue. So this isn’t really something that Event Espresso has any control over, its your webhosts mailserver. However, which payment gateway are you using? We recommend using a transactional email services such as Mandill or PostMark which basically then sends all your email through their mailservers, these services are generally much quick and more reliable than your webhosts mailserver. More info is available here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/postmark-app-mandrill-transactional-email-handling-services/
There could be many reasons for this, but this is something we can troubleshoot further. Do you have caching plugins installed? Use server side caching through your webhost or Cloudflare? Who is your webhost? Can you provide a link to your event so we can run some tests? |

Hi Tony, Thank you for your reply and I could have sworn I replied back but do not see it on the thread. Our web host is GoDaddy, so I realize that might be the problem with emails lagging. However, it never happened before when we used EE3. We are also using Mandrill on our site as we added it when when we were having issues with Hotmail receiving confirmation emails in EE3, not so much for prompt delivery of confirmation emails. I do not believe we have a caching plugin, so I’ll look into that. With regards to some of the system glitches people experienced, it’s hard to know. I’ve never had any issues with anything in all of my testing. You can check out our registration at http://bwayboundnc.com/2015-summer-camps/event-list-2/ Also, is there a way to change the “Error Message” when a user doesn’t do something right. I have a feeling that this message panicked people into thinking it was a system error and not something the user didn’t select. Obviously if you read the message, it instructs you to do something, but in the mad dash of our registration, I think people freak out. Can I customize that message to say something like, “Oops, you forgot one step. Make sure you select…” Thanks again! |

Hi Erin, I ran a test registration on your site (it will say TEST in numerous places), and saw no issues at all. If you could provide more details such as what error messages/issues were seen and where it could help us narrow it down. Messages and wording in general can be changed via translations, please see here for a few options on how to do it: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-change-wording-with-poedit/ Please note that some text strings are not always obvious as they might in fact be several strings and we also use logic in some of them, so if you get stuck with translating a particular string, let us know. |
