I wanted to confirm that it is safe to upgrade to v.3 to v.4 with open events. I read that there were some issues with your earlier versions of EE3. I have a couple events open and did not want to jeopardize them. Could you please advise? Thank you! |
Hi Carol, Currently there are no known issues that should cause problems with open events, however we always recommend upgrading on a development copy of the site first to confirm there are no issues. This can be a local copy of the site or a development copy of the site running on the same sever as the live site (preferred). At the very least we recommend creating a full site back of you current site before updating, this backup should include all files but most importantly a backup of the database. We have a guide available to show you how to do this manually here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-back-up-your-site/ However there are multiple plugins available which make this much easier, for example Backup WordPress is one I use. |

Hi Tony – unfortunately, this is not a clean transition. The Open events had a specific shortcode that was used for registration. Those have all been replaced by EE and now those original links don’t work. The problem with that is that one of the links was published. The event pages I had created within EE3 are no longer showing probably because the IDs were updated. Why would those need to change?? I had an existing “Events” page that was not related to EE that is no longer showing nor are any of the sub-pages that exist below that page. It’s as if EE4 hijacked that page name??? One of the event shows 30 registrations, but when I click on the link I only see 1 person. There is WAY too much information being displayed on the “updated” event page and the group registration set-up I had in place is no longer listed. This is a complete disaster and I will need to restore the backup… This is extremely disappointing and frustrating! |
Hi Carol, We have a guide for updating to Event Espresso 4 here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#ee4 It sounds like there were some Event Espresso 3 specific shortcodes in use or certain pages were in your navigation and they have stopped working.. There are a few changes to be aware of. First, the default /event-registration/ WordPress page is replaced with a virtual page called events. That page slug can be switched to something else by using this filter: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/change-events-cpt-slug/ Next, the single event pages no longer have numbers at the end of them as pretty URLs are now used (e.g. example.com/events/my-new-event/). Some of the content that is shown on the event listing page can be disabled through Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Templates. Other information can be hidden by using CSS (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/hide-certain-elements-event-espresso-pages-using-css/) or by creating new templates: https://eventespresso.com/2014/02/developers-corner-theming-event-espresso-4/ — |

I followed the updating guide and it did not address all of the issues I experienced. It would have been helpful to know ahead of time that a virtual Event page would be replacing my existing Event page. I have switched back to EE3 and now none of my links are working. It takes me to the Events Registration page with the EE shortcode. Could you please help me rectify this ASAP? http://www.cynergycrossfit.com/event-registration/?ee=62 Thank you. |
Hi, Go to WP-admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings. There are four WordPress pages that Event Espresso 3 uses. Ensure that each one has the correct shortcode and is published. Then go to WP-admin –> Settings –> Permalinks to refresh your permalinks and the pages should work again. — |

Thank you for your prompt response Lorenzo, I appreciate that. It appears to be working. Thank you. |
