Hello, I’m running WP 3.9.2. No EE add-ons. I’m trying to export events from our old, outdated site to a new development site. The old site is on WP 3.5.1 and EE 3.1.15P. I export the events as CSV and rename the file to events.csv (nice *feature*). I then import into EE 3.1.36.5P and get a mile long list of “Event Category Added Successfully” messages, but no event was imported. Thanks, |
|
What’s more interesting is that if I re-enable the old version of EE in my dev environment, the events show up. WTF? |
|
When I try to insert an event using the new version, I get the following error: There was an error in your submission. The event was not saved! Please try again. |
Hi leo,
There will likely have been many changes to the database between 3.1.15 and 3.1.36.5 so a direct export import will likely not work.
How was the development server setup? As in is it a completely new site or a cloned/migrated version of your current site? |

Thanks Tony, So I should have updated to EE 4 since upgrading 3.x doesn’t work anyway? Awesome. The dev server is a VVV-based Vagrant site, default config. I pulled down the database using WP Migrate DB Pro. I installed all the plugins I had in production. I copied the theme to the local site. Upgrading WordPress version. Everything appears to be working except for the Events. |
I’m not sure I understand. If you have the original DB with events from 3.1.15 you do not need to export/import, they are all already within the database. Just to note if you need to migrate your events from EE3 to EE4 you must be using at least 3.1.36 before migrating as EE4 is expecting that database version. Are the events all active events or previous (closed) events? I suspect for some reason the update scripts have not been called on your development server. |

Thanks Tony, If I enable the old version of the plugin, the events appear. If I enable the 3.1.36.5P, the events don’t appear in the table. That’s why I thought I’d try importing them. No dice. Also, inserting an event into the new version returns that error I listed above. Thoughts? |
Hi Leo, If you have already attempted an upgrade to EE3 or EE4, then it would be best to restore your database back to your original version at 3.1.15.P. Then follow this guide to go to the current version of Event Espresso 3: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#update_manually Then verify that your events are there. Run another backup and then update to Event Espresso 4: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/#ee4 — |

Thanks Lorenzo, |

I followed the upgrade guide and am still not seeing any Events after the upgrade. As soon as I revert back to the old version, the events appear. Also, I’m unable to add a new event using the new version (3.x) of the plugin. |
Is this database the original version before any upgrade attempts were made? — |
|
|
Thanks Lorenzo, I’ve overwritten the database one more time and run the manual upgrade process. No dice. The events table is empty when I activate the newer 3.x plugin. |
|
Leo, I’ve just emailed you a copy of EE 3.1.27.1 to the email we have on file in your account, can you install that and see if the events appear? If so you can then go on to install the latest after that and it should be OK. As always retain a copy of your original site/database to fall back on. |
|
Thanks Dean, I’ll touch base with the account owner to test. |
|
OK, please let me know how you get on. |
