How do I perform an update to EE4 – When i downloaded the zip file – the files inside are not in a folder. EE3 zip file had a folder called event-expresso. Version 4 just has all the files and folders in it – do I just upload these files into the event-expresso folder already in my plugin directory, overwritting the existing files and folders? |

Also – Is there a link you can give us for all these (50+) new EE4 features you’re advertising on your site – all I see is EE4 core and EE4 calendar. Thanks |
Hi Kevin, It may help to try downloading the zip file from another browser because some browsers will automatically extract the zip file. Before updating, I recommend reading this first if you are using any of the Event Espresso 3 add-ons: https://eventespresso.com/2014/02/event-espresso-4-beta-officially-released/ Along with that, backing up the WordPress database is recommended to allow for reverting to EE3 in case you want to stay with EE3 for the time being. Please note that if you plan on migrating the EE3 data you will need to be sure to have the latest version of Event Espresso 3 up to date before hand. Here are step by step instructions on how to deactivate EE3 and install Event Espresso 4: Download EE4 latest version from your user profile page Go to the Plugins page of your WordPress admin. Deactivate Event Espresso 3. Click the “Add New” link at the top of the Plugins page Click Upload Click Choose File Select the .zip file that you have just downloaded Click the Install Now button Activate. A message will display that tells you that Event Espresso is in Maintenance mode. From there it will walk you through the steps to migrate the data from EE3 if you choose to migrate the data or let you start fresh with new data. Here’s a link with the Event Espresso 4 features: https://eventespresso.com/features/?ee_ver=ee4 You might also find the EE3 to EE4 comparison chart helpful: |

Hi Kevin, If I attempt to create a new Event, and try to publish, it hangs. |
Hi kcray, Can you try resetting the Event Espresso 4 data from the maintenance tab, then run the migration again? Before migrating though please check and make sure that all of the Event Espresso 3 add-ons and Event Espresso 3 is up to date with the latest versions. |
