I was following the 3 to 4 migration documentation at:
https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-upgrade-event-espresso/#migrate-to-event-espresso-4

and went to the maintenance page and followed the updates to the database from 4.9.0 to 4.10.0 etc and didn’t see any further info on migrating.

what to do now?
have I lost the ability to migrate the old database?

Hi Graham,

Was the first step of the migration really 4.9.0 or did it start with 4.1 then go to 4.2?

Well I’m not totally sure about the version update numbers but there were two. however I restored my old database reactivated eventespresso 3 and all was well. I then tried it again. It did import the same three, years old expired events. So it is trying to grab the old events data but its not getting it all.

I did need to upgrade my wordpress from a low 4 version (incompatable with EE4) to 5.3 (the latest version). I don’t know if that had any impact?

Everything in your reply suggests that EE4 was activated before on your site, approximately 3 years ago. Since it’s been activated before, it will not migrate events from EE3.

What you can do is deactivate EE3, then activate EE4. It will likely want to do the migration from 4.9 to 4.10 again, but you can select the option to delete the events (it’s only going to delete the events from 3 years ago, because that’s all that’s in the database for EE4).

Then, you go to Event Espresso > Maintenance > Reset and click the last button on the page to delete all EE4 data. This deactivate EE4 and remove its data, and will give you a fresh start with EE4 and will allow for migrating your current EE3 events into EE4.

Then you’ll reactivate EE4 once more and it will start the migration from EE3 to EE4.1, then 4.2, and so on until it’s updated the database to work with EE4.10.
