I’m seeking suggestions for controlling the “sale” of free tickets that are limited to a handful of special guests. Can the tickets be “hidden” or password protected? Does a separate password-protected event need to be created?

I’d appreciate any ideas from those who have dealt with this issue. Thanks.

Hi Valerie,

Here are some ideas on handling this:

1) You could create a password protected event

2) You could manually register these registrants through the WP dashboard (https://gist.github.com/lorenzocaum/7115b1fe6c66418b83fc)

On the second idea above, we have a feature request to add a checkmark for admin-only ticket options.

Hello Valerie,

What is the criteria for allowing someone to register with a free ticket? If the purchase of one paid ticket is required, then you can set the paid ticket to be required, and the “free” ticket to a maximum of 1 (or however many free tickets you offer per paid ticket).

Would that work for you? If not, can you give us a little more detail about your requirements?

In addition, if those special guests will create an account on your website (or you create it for them), you could use the WP User Integration (WP Users Integration (https://eventespresso.com/product/eea-wp-user-integration/) and give those accounts a special user capability. That special capability can be used to hide your free ticket to only those who have that capability.

It’s a little more complex situation, but if you’re already creating accounts for people then it might work.

I helped out with another site where they had the same situation, and we came up with a way to display a specific ticket on a password-protected page. Here’s the code we used:

https://github.com/eventespresso/ee-code-snippet-library/blob/master/templates/jf_ee_password_protect_ticket.php

You do not need to create a separate event (just one separate “VIP” ticket).

Solution 2 looks perfect for our purposes- there is only a “handful” of VIPS…I tested it and it works fine.thanks.

Great! Was there anything else that we could help you with regarding creating tickets for Event Espresso 4?

Yesterday the suggestion by Lorenzo worked:

2) You could manually register these registrants through the WP dashboard (https://gist.github.com/lorenzocaum/7115b1fe6c66418b83fc)

Today, I can’t see the “free” ticket when logged in….

Please advise. Thanks

Hi Valerie, these tickets should appear in the WP dashboard appear when manually registering a registrant. They would not appear on the front end.

Could you clarify on where they are missing from?

Thanks

Hey Josh, thanks for posting some code to display a specific ticket on a password-protected page. To where do I add this code? I currently have an event at http://conference.futurehealthleaders.org.au/register/ and was hoping to do what you have described so I can provide a link and password to speakers to register for the event…
