I upgraded to EE4 in mid-December, intentionally, as I was going into the slow holiday season for CPR and First Aid classes. I figured that it would be less disruptive to my business to do it at that time, just in case I ran into problems along the way. Well, as much as you can never tweak your website enough, I’m really, really close to being comfortable again with how it’s now working. That said, with Christmas well in the rearview mirror, my business should have picked up by now. But it hasn’t. And, of course, that concerns me. I’m just curious if anyone else out there using EE4 has experienced anything similar to this right after upgrading. That question is directed primarily at EE4 users (although comments from Event Espresso staff would also be welcome). And I’m curious if there’s anything I may need to change to get my site back in the good graces of the almighty Google? That question is directed mainly to Event Espresso staff (but, if anyone else would like to chime in on this inquiry, please do so). Here is the website: |
Hi, there are several improvements that Event Espresso 4 has over Event Espresso 3 in terms of making information readily available to various search engines. 1) Event Espresso 3 uses a numeric value for its events: example.com/event-registration?ee=123 Event Espresso 4 introduces pretty URLs which are descriptive for humans and search engines: example.com/events/my-spring-event 2) Event Espresso 4 stores information as custom post types. This means that popular WP SEO plugins like All in One SEO and WordPress SEO by Yoast can include the event URLs in the sitemap which is used by search engines. 3) Event Espresso 4 also uses markup by schema.org which makes it easier for multiple search engines to read the event data: Google has some guidelines here for webmasters: I recommend taking a looking at those recommendations. Also, keep in mind that search engine optimization is on ongoing process and does not happen overnight. — |

Thanks for your answer to my second question, Lorenzo. I’m still hoping to get an answer from an EE4 user (and/or someone from the Event Espresso staff) about the first question in my post:
