Event Espresso renders bbPress unviewable by users/unpostable by admins

I’m relatively new to WordPress. Everything was working fine until last Sunday when I upgraded WP to v. 4.0. After upgrading, I checked the various components of the site and it seemed it was all good. Re bbPress, I am an administrator on WP and a keymaster in bbPress. I could view the forum but did not attempt to post there.

By Monday, we were receiving emails that WP users other than admin/keymaster were unable to view the forum (although it can be viewed without logging in). I verified this with a test user, different browsers, different routes to the forum, etc.

At that time, I also tried replying to a topic and found that I received this: ERROR: You do not have permission to reply. Then I noticed that the only option available to me was “reply” (normally I have options like trash, edit, etc.).

To troubleshoot, I deactivated all the plugins and activated them one by one and event espresso seems to be the culprit plugin that is interfering with bbPress functionality.

Below is info re the site’s configuration:

WordPress Version: 4.0
PHP Version: 5.3.29
Event Espresso Version: 4.4.3.p
Event Espresso – Calendar Version: 3.1.0.p
bbPress Version: 2.5.4
Site address (URL): http://www.pptpdx.org

Other plugins:

Akismet Version 3.0.2
Contact Us Version 1.6
CSS & JavaScript Toolbox Version 8.0.1
Easy Google Fonts Version 1.3.2
Google Analytics by Yoast Version 5.0.7
iThemes Security Version 4.4.20
Limit Login Attempts Version 1.7.1
MemberPress Business Edition Version 1.1.6
MemberPress Importer Version 1.1.4
Stream Version 2.0.1
TinyMCE Advanced Version 4.1.1
UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore Version 1.9.30.19
WP Maintenance Mode Version 2.0.3

Please help! Our site is very active and this has set us back. I am forced to start researching alternative plugins, and I’ve been so happy with the ones that were initially chosen, especially EE which is super slick!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Patrik,

When EE is active, are the BBPress admin menus still visible? If so can you still access each menu?

We had an issue with BBPress in versions older than EE 4.4.1, but they should have been fixed, so I’m trying to figure out if this is related.

Hi Dean. Thanks for the response. To answer your question, the bbPress admin menus are still visible and it’s possible to access each menu (forums [all forums, new forum], topics [all topics, new topic, topic tags], and replies [all replies, new reply].

It looks like we worked around the issue, though, by using another plugin called Capability Manager Enhanced (v. 1.5.2). I just installed and activated it. I made no configuration changes at all and voila! both bbPress and EE seem to be playing well together once more

If you need any more information, please let me know. Otherwise, I guess this is a closed ticket – thank you!

Hi Patrik,

If it has resolved it then that’s ok, but please monitor it and if any further issues arise please advise us.
