I am looking to see if now if a good time to move up to EE4 from EE 3.

I currently have the following items in my EE3 installation and I am not seeing all of these in the EE4 options on my account – trying to determine what I might loose functionality wise should i upgrade:

Event Espresso v3.1.37.3.P
Events Calendar Add-on v2.2.6.p
Ticketing Add-on v2.2.0.p
JSON API Add-on v2.1.4.P
EE3 MailChimp Integration v1.2
Multiple Event Registration Add-on v1.0.5
WP User Integration v1.9.8
Recurring Events Manager Add-on v1.1.8
Events Calendar Table Template v1.1
Custom Template Add-on v1.1.p
Social Media Buttons Add-on v1.1.7
Roles and Permissions Basic Add-on v1.5.5
Social Coupons Integration v1.5.4.p
Custom Files Add-on v3.1

Please advise.

Hi David,

The following will not be available so I recommend continuing to use Event Espresso 3:

JSON API (for mobile apps) – under development for release later this year
Multiple Event Registration – undergoing final testing
Recurring Events Manager – not available

I have only used the recurring events manager 1 time so what are the ramifications of turning that off?

What is the anticipated release dates on the other two items?

Hi David,

We do not remove any data from you database when de-activating/removing Event Espresso (or Add-ons) so the only ramifications of disabling an Add-on is that you can no longer use the features that Add-on provides.

We can not provide release dates for EE4 Add-ons currently.

However to note, the current EE Ticket Scanning apps are compatible with EE3 and not EE4, even with the release of the JSON API fo EE4 the ticketing apps will not work. It is possible to scan tickets using a mobile device, but there is not a dedicated EE4 App to do so, see here for details:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-use-a-mobile-device-to-scan-ee4-tickets/

I would recommend creating a development site (a clone of your live site) locally and upgrade to EE4 there to see if EE4 suits your needs. EE4 is a drastically different system to EE3 and people use features in ways we don’t expect so the best way to know is to simply test it 🙂

You could also take a look at our Test Drive Event Espresso 4 site to see the features available there.

Hi David,

There should be no major ramifications for turning off Recurring Event Manager (REM) – all it really does is allow creation of duplicate events, those events will still stay whether the REM plugin is active or not.

One minor issue that might come up is if you are using the REM template to collate the recurring events, that will of course be lost and each event will be shown separately on the event list.
