Hi there,

we’ve just set up for our first conference and whenever people go to pay using PayPal we get an error message. “An error has occurred: It appears the Off Site Payment Method was not configured properly.” We are using PayPal Express and have entered in the API Username, Password and Signature in Event Espresso Payment Methods. These are correct so we’re wondering hy we would still be getting the error message?

Thanks for your help,

Dermot

Hi Dermot,

There are a lot of reasons that error can be thrown so we’ll need to check the logs for more info.

First, in EE go to the transaction for one of these registrations and view their payment, does it show an error in the ‘gateway response’ field? Like this – http://take.ms/H77ss

That’s within Event Espresso -> Registrations -> {find a registration that has attempted payment} -> Click on TXN Date to go directly to it.

If not we’ll need info from the payment logs which are in Event Espresso -> Payment methods -> Logs.

Each time a payment is attempted it creates 1 or more log entries (click the log ID on the left to view, no the TXN link on the right). Look for one that has ‘Payment Token Response’ in the content section, does it show an error?

Hi Tony,

this is the error in the gateway response field 10002; Restricted account

Any ideas?

To confirm, your not using a Sandbox account with the payment method in live mode are you, or a Live account with the payment method in debug mode?

That error usually means either the credentials provided in the payment method are incorrect (check for leading/trailing spaces and confirm the details), or the account is restricted on PayPal’s end and you will need to contact them.

See here: https://www.paypal.com/us/selfhelp/article/why-did-i-get-api-error-code-10002-ts1030

So first, check your credentials are correct for your PayPal account:

Thanks Tony. I have the site owner checking his credentials now. Hopefully it will be an easy fix 🙂
