So far so good with EE3 to EE4 migration, good job guys.

The “new” messaging system looks good but we can’t seem to get items to send and receiving the following error message:

An error has occurred:
The messages were not sent. This could mean there is already a batch being sent on a separate request, or because the selected messages are not sendable. Please wait a minute or two and try again. EED_Messages – send_now – 949

We are running EE4 (latest) on an AWS Ubuntu instance with SES.

Any clues?

Hi there,

If you go in to edit a message template, then test sending the message there does it send? Are there any errors on the Event Espresso > Messages > Activity list?

Get this, (also note that I have tried a test email using wp smtp plugin and that works fine so reasonably confident it’s not a server issue)

The following errors have occurred:
The email did not send successfully.
The WordPress wp_mail function is used for sending mails but does not give any useful information when an email fails to send.
It is possible the “to” address (robborover@me.com) or “from” address (info@impacttennis.co.uk) is invalid.

EE_Email_messenger – _send_message – 366

The test message was not sent
Messages_Admin_Page – _do_test_send – 2528

We actually see the same error when it’s a server issue. Is the WP SMTP plugin set up to send all emails that go through the wp_mail function?

I have had errors before using the plugin (pure wpmail) and now it’s set to (via the plugin)
Mailer
Send all WordPress emails via SMTP.

and the “This messenger delivers messages via email using the built-in wp_mail function included with WordPress” switch is on. Makes no difference to the error if on or off.

You can activate some debugging code on your site to possibly capture a more useful error message by following this guide:

If your site is on WP 4.4 or later, the code snippet that hooks into
wp_mail_failed will be especially helpful.
