I can suggest removing the Event Espresso files and replacing them by following these steps:
1) Download the plugin from your account page
2) Deactivate and delete the old version of Event Espresso.
3) Upload the new plugin to your site via Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New.
4) Activate the plugin.
Reinstalling will not affect your existing events. With regards to customisations, reinstalling will not affect your customisations with the exception of the customisations were made directly to the plugin’s PHP code files, CSS files, or JavaScript files. If you directly altered the plugin’s code, you will lose your customizations when the files are replaced. If you’re asking about customizations to settings and options, no effect.
The server timing error will happen if the event pages are served from a stale cache. The solution to this is set the caching plugin (or server side caching if applicable) to exclude the event pages from the cache.
