EE4 Events page layout

We upgraded to EE4 however, the way the events are displayed has changed. In EE3 it actually created a page I could edit, That no longer seems to be the case. Also, in EE3 it had a nice neat boxed layout for the events on the events page with a register button right in the box, this has seemed to disappear. Is there a way to get that back and possibly get the box that was around the events back? I can’t seem to find a setting to get it back to the way it looked before. It also seems to have them laid out in a blog type format. I’ve disables comments but the comments button still shows up under the events. Some help would be appreciated!

Also all the functionality seems to have broken. When you click on register it loops back to the events page. It seems a lot of things have broken with this update. It was fine before. Here is the link http://cibstudies.org/events/

Sorry to keep posting but I keep finding more and more issues. I paid for this version because I thought it would help with many things I was trying to accomplish but it really botched the layout and look that it had before. I’m half thinking at this point of downgrading and redoing the whole thing since I only have two events at the moment. hopefully someone has a solution.

Well, problem resolved. I ended up downgrading back to EE3 free version. Not ideal since we paid for EE4 but at least functionality is back. We couldn’t afford to have it non functional. If you could set what pages the events displayed on like in EE3 that would have helped for one. The other big thing was that the register button didn’t work at all. So far it’s money down the drain. ๐Ÿ™

Hi Matthew,

Sorry to hear you had troubles.

EE4 is different from EE3 in that it uses Custom Post Types, so it is more “native” to WordPress. What this means is that yes, the events are treated like posts and will show in a blog post style.

The theme will style the events, but they can also be targeted with custom CSS to style them differently. (A very simple example http://take.ms/kAhHA)

I have not come across the looping issue with registering in EE4. Now that you have reverted to EE3 it will be, unfortunately, difficult to troubleshoot the issue.

Disabling comments will definitely turn them off on the events, however if the event had been created before the comments had been turned off globally you would need to edit each event to disable comments (just like with posts).

We are here to try and help you get things working when they don’t appear to be so if you wanted to try EE4 again and run into problem,s please just let us know.

Thanks for the response but unfortunately it looked so bad due to all the changes it won’t be very productive for us, I know you can’t trouble shoot because we downgraded but we really had to get functionality back.

The sad thing about all this is that if i knew that it would completely wreck the layout we would’t have purchased it even if it was working right. It just looked really bad. We don’t have time to edit the php files, we just wanted something like EE3 that looked elegant with more options. I think we may be looking for other alternatives at this point. Thanks anyway. I just wish we could get our money back ๐Ÿ™
