When I am looking at an unmodified default email template “Registration Approved”, and enter my email in the Extra Action widget to send a test email, I get a nice looking email.

When I sign up for an event using that email, I get an email in which the body is:

<=body style=”margin: 0; padding: 0; font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, ‘Helve=ica’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>
<=d style=”margin: 0; padding: 0; font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, ‘Helvetic=’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”> =0A
=tbody style=”margin: 0; padding: 0; font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, ‘Helv=tica’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>
=td style=”margin: 0; padding: 0; font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, ‘Helveti=a’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>

We are on a dev server that is sandboxed, but I’d be happy to show you using a remote session if that’s needed.

Thanks!

Hello,

I see that there are strange characters being set for some letters. A member reported this earlier this year and it was tracked to the local email server.

They resolved this issue by using Mandrill which is a transactional email service. However, there are a variety of choices including Sendgrid, Postmark App, Mailgun, and others.

We didn’t have this issue or need to use a service in EE3 – does that mean that we need to use a service now because of the way email templates are coded in EE4?

Hi, please see the introductory text here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/postmark-app-mandrill-transactional-email-handling-services/

Event Espresso isn’t changing out those characters as it does not send emails on its own.

This is the an overview of the flow of email notifications:

Email notification is triggered in Event Espresso –> Event Espresso initiates an email through wp_mail –> wp_mail uses the local email server

We are not server admins so we do not have any feedback on how to configure the local email server to resolve this issue. I do recommend checking into a transactional email service since they specialize in email delivery.

Yes, I understood that. But what I am asking is if the problem is presenting now because of the way the HTML is written in the new email templates.

Since the emails from the EE3 site come to my email OK, and the emails from the EE4 sites (on the same server as the EE3 site) do not come to the same email address OK, it looks to me like the email templates are causing the issue.

Hi,

My prior suggestion was based on one other report of a similar issue earlier this year.

That was the only report that I could find. I don’t think that is due to invalid HTML in the templates as we would be recieving many more reports.
