In the past 24 hours, I continue to have people signing up for events, continue to receive notification from Paypal of payments made, but registrant shows in EE as Regn Incomplete (payment not received). I have checked the 4 things suggested in your FAQ and all are correct. (“Make sure you have a standard or a business PayPal account, personal accounts don’t work. Turn on your IPN. Make sure your PayPal account is verified. Make sure your Event Espresso pages are not protected or private”) We had no problems 2 days ago, nothing has been changed…..can you help? |

Can you check the IPN log located in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/logs for error messages? Also, it may help to know the URL that is set to be the notify URL in Event Espresso>General settings. |
|
Thanks Josh. The notification URL is http://bfdogtraining.ca/transactions/ I tried to access the IPN log via http://bfdogtraining.ca/wp-content/uploads/espresso/logs/ but got an error 403 Access Forbidden. |

The facebook widget is really slowing down that transactions page. You can speed up the load time (so the IPN doesn’t time out) by installing the simplified transactions page template on your theme. You can download it from here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-set-up-paypal-ipn/ The log file is not accessible via a web browser for security purposes. You’ll need to access the log file via an FTP client or your host’s cpanel. |

You’ll need to access that log folder using an ftp client. |
OK, found my way in. The error code seems to be in the Paypal error log. “Errors resulting from the execution of curl transfer: Operation timed out after 45001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received[12/23/2013 12:53 PM] – FAIL: IPN Validation Failed . /cgi-bin/webscr : http://www.paypal.com” Is that a timeout failure or an IPN validation error? And in any case, what to do to fix it? |
|
|
The IPN validation error is being caused by the timeout failure. Basically, Paypal’s server isn’t responding to the request to validate the IPN message. There isn’t a lot we can do on our end, it’s a failure on Paypal’s end. About the only thing we could do is not validate IPN messages, and treat every IPN message as if it was already validated. |
The error is saying it’s timing out after trying for 45 seconds. If you go into Event Espresso>System Settings does it indicated that cURL is enabled? |
|
“Your server has fsockopen and cURL enabled.” |
|
I’ve also opened an inquiry with Paypal. |

Please let us know the response from PayPal. |
Seems to have been caused by my server. They couldn’t see why, didn’t make any firewall changes that might have been the issue, but offered to transfer me to a different site just in case. Once that was done, all went back to normal operational mode. |

Thanks for the feedback and I’m glad it’s resolved for you now! |
