I am testing out EE4 and using the event category feature so I can go to http://kidsgreatminds.org/event-category/8-11/ where 8-11 is one of my event categories. I wanted to know if it is possible to edit this page (or more generally edit all the category pages). I want to change the page header where it says “Event Category: Ages 8 to 11” (Ages 8 to 11 is the category name). I instead want it to say “Courses for Ages 8 to 11” how can I do this?

Hi there,

Yes, it is possible, but the output of the category archives is controlled by your theme rather than Event Espresso (EE registers a custom taxonomy within WordPress and then it’s used as such for EE events).

May I ask, which theme are you using on the site?

As a quick side note, we view threads based on the last reply date and generally work through them based on that order which means ‘bumping’ your threads will usually have the opposite effect than intended.

Oh, good to know about ‘bumping’ thanks.

Also, I am using Twenty Twenty theme and editing some of the template files and css for it. Is there a directory containing the files I need to edit for this? I also have an issue after updating to EE4 where the events are displayed in a scroll box where I need to scroll up/down and sideways to full see list of courses. I’m assuming the fix to that will be in the same file as editing the header. If not let me know if and how I can fix that, thanks again Tony.

Are you editing the theme directly? If so I recommend you move those changes into a child theme:

https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/advanced-topics/child-themes/

Otherwise when the theme updates (and it will need to eventually) you’l lose any and all modifications you’ve made, using a child theme prevents that.

I also have an issue after updating to EE4 where the events are displayed in a scroll box where I need to scroll up/down and sideways to full see list of courses. I’m assuming the fix to that will be in the same file as editing the header.

Can you post a link I can view this on please, I’ll need to see the page to see what is happening.

For the taxonomy header you can use a hook to change those titles without modifying files, see:

https://gist.github.com/Pebblo/589488bd670d646a91326157d0c569a7

Add that to a custom functions plugin on the site, we have some documentation on creating one here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/create-site-specific-plugin-wordpress-site/

Or add it to your (child) theme’s functions.php file.
