Cannot see UK in Countries Drop Down

My main country is the US but I have people from the UK wanting to register for a virtual event. My plugin is up-to-date, but I cannot see “United Kingdom” in my countries drop down. I am most certain it was there before. Has something changed in the last release?

I do have a “GB” in my countries list, but I believe it was dynamically added by users, since it only contains three counties. I would prefer not to have to enter all of the UK information manually. Is there a way to add the entire UK in bulk?

No, we haven’t changed how the countries system works in a long time.

Which version were you using prior to 4.10.6.p (the latest at the time of this reply)?

Do you have access to the database and are you comfortable viewing the tables?

If using phpMyAdmin can you open up {db_prefix}esp_country and click search, then input ‘GB’ into the CNT_ISO field and click go:

Do you see the UK returned, like this:

Or if you prefer, click the ‘Export’ table for that table and select Quick export then Go. Send me the file that downloads and I’ll check that.

I’m just trying to confirm if the UK country is still in the database or not, if not I can give you a script that can add it in for you.

Hi there, sorry for taking so long to get back to this. I am not entirely sure which version of EE was installed prior to the update.

I did find GB in the database but it seems to be incomplete. The Country Name is missing along with CNT_ISO3 and under CNT_Active the value was 0.

I made it active and also added United Kingdom to the country name and now it is showing up for me in my lists. So I think my problem is solved.

However, there are only 4 states/provinces for GB in my database or on the Countries settings page…I think they were added by users. Should all the counties be in there automatically? Not a big deal, I can add them later.

You can check your activation history in:

Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System information -> ee_activation_history

Hmm, yeah that’s strange, I’m not sure what’s happened there.

So, the counties (states within EE itself) will only automatically download if there are none saved in the database already for that country. Problem is that removing what you have now may break and registrations linked to the counties you remove.

EE will generally avoid throwing fatal errors when something is missing from the DB but it’s still possible it may happen. I’ve tested removing a state assigned to a registration and went through various pages that pulled the value to check it worked (which it did and just shows ‘Please select’ for state) but its by no means extensive testing.

So you ‘could’ remove the states assigned to GB in the esp_state table (search by CNT_ISO) and then remove them. (Make sure you create a database backup before doing so).

Then if you select UK in general settings EE will download the ‘states’ for you but again, not that any registrations that used those states you removed will now have their address ‘broken’.
