Hi there,

PayPal standard was deprecated in favour of PayPal Express due to the number of issues user were having with IPN’s, in short they simply aren’t reliable enough so we don’t recommend using standard (even in EE3 if you can avoid it).

May I ask why you only want to use PayPal Standard?

PayPal Express uses the exact same account type with PayPal (just different credentials from your account) and uses an integration method that does not use IPN’s, making it more relaible.

Note that the answer to your question is yes, you can switch to EE3 if you prefer. However, if the only reasons you want to switch is to use PayPal standard I advise you don’t, you’ll run into more issues with that payment method than any other.

However, it’s important to note that we no longer provide support for issues with PayPal Standard due to the above. When issues arise with PayPal Standard we simply advise you to switch to PayPal Express.

Another option with similar fees but much more reliable is Stripe.
