Can I build an endurance event calendar with Event Espresso?

Hi,

I am interested in creating a calendar for running events (marathons, 5K’s, etc), where users can submit their race to my calendar. I’d like to have the calendar (and search options) be similar to that found on http://www.coolrunning.com/eventcal/search/. Would Event Espresso allow me to accomplish that?

Thanks in advance,
Sean

Hi Sean,

While Event Espresso can do some of that currently (Event Type = categories), you may wish to wait for a new plugin we have been working on which could assist.

However, I still don’t think even plugin that will be able do ALL of those in one go without some sort of customisation.

For example, there is a date range template, a location/map template and a category filter, but they are all separate so would need to be combined.

The Distance could potentially be done via custom meta fields.

So yeah, Event Espresso *can* do it, but not out of the box, you would need some customisation.

Hi Dean. Thanks you very much for all of this info. It’s great to hear that Event Espresso can make this type of event calendar (and search) possible.

Regarding the plugin, what exactly are the features that will have and do you have an estimated release timeframe (weeks, months)?

Also, I certainly understand some customization would be required to achieve all of the functionality I’m looking for. I see that you do custom work for event registration and ticketing management software. Does Event Espresso do contract work for event calendar related requests?

Hi Sean,

Regarding the template plugin, soon I hope! More weeks than months, we are just getting ready for a release of several updates so I am hoping it will be in that group.

We do take on customisation work if we have resources available and currently I don’t believe we do, but we do recommend some third party developers who are good with Event Espresso – https://eventespresso.com/developers/event-espresso-pros/

Hi Sean, I’m using Event Espresso for http://actifepi.ca and have also used it with http://purewinnipeg.com (though the latter doesn’t currently have any active events, they do a number over the summer, including a 5k race series.

There’s definitely some customization involved, but it has served us well.

Thanks Dean. Glad to hear the template plugin will be coming out sooner than later. Is there a feed or newsletter I should subscribe to be notified of the release?

David, appreciate your help as well. Those are some pretty cool sites! Its nice to see some examples of similar sites that are using this tool.

Hi Sean,

We do have a newsletter you can sign up to (see the bottom of any page on this site).

It should be coming out with the next EE update, so keep an eye out in your dashboard for that and it will hopefully be an indicator that the plugin has been released.
