Attendee information garbled and attendees not on attendee list

I am using Event Espresso 3.1.36.5.P and WordPress 3.9.1. I put the site up last March and when I entered a new event in July to be held April 15-17, 2015, I tested it at least 10 times to make sure that the events, emails, etc. were working properly and they were. We have 9 attendees that have apparently signed up starting with the first having signed up on 11/24/14 and the last two signed up on 2/2/15. All of the information for the first 7 to sign up is garbled. The first and last names are the same but unintelligible – for instance “wtaefk wtaefk” are given for the first and last name in the Attendee Name column for the first signup on 11/24. The other attendee information is equally fubar. We did not receive any emails alerting us to the fact that these attendees had signed up. The the information for the last two signups on 2/2 was correct but there was even a problem with one of those. For the first one the information in Event Espresso was valid and we received the notification email as expected. We received an email notification for the second sign up on 2/2 but that person is nowhere to be found under the attendees listed in Event Espresso. I signed up a dummy attendee when we discovered this problem and everything work as expected. Could someone assist me to solve this problem or at least get to the root of it? Is it possible that someone is trying to use Event Espresso to hack the website? If so, that might explain the 7 garbled signups but even that would’t account for the one person who signed up but did not appear in the attendee name list. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Steve,

We have never heard of EE3 garbling attendee data like that, so my gut is saying that some spammers/spam bots are trying their luck with the site. The lack of emails is strange though as you should still receive an email even with a spam registration.

Regarding the missing attendee, I would first check the various filters to make sure the attendee just isn’t hidden for some reason. It might be worth checking the database to be absolutely sure.

The only time we know that an attendee can sign up and then go missing, is if they register and then hit the back button and register again. The second registration overwrites the first one. We implemented a JavaScript alert to advise people about hitting the back button but it could be they ignored it or don’t have JavaScript.
